Re: James Andrew Husband, Pickering Town Council
Possibly it's worth mentioning here that Pickering was the town where Husband grew up. So there must be quite a few townsfolk who remember him as a wee ginger-haired nipper running around in short trousers and who are now trying to square that memory with this summer's unpleasantness.
Even I have to admit to struggling with having to connect the name Andrew Husband with the word paedophile. It's a very uncomfortable thing to have to do. But there it is.

Re: James Andrew Husband, Pickering Town Council
He was happy enough to talk about the matter below in 2001 - a perturbing story regarding the ex-Mayor of Pickering.
Husband stated '
“He’s a very pleasant man, who has given body and soul for this town, but it’s a huge shock for a little place like this. It really is a bombshell".
Bombshell indeed.

Read More Promotional feature from American Express® THE former mayor of a North Yorkshire town has apparently abandoned his wife and children to set up home with his long-lost half sister. Pickering has woken up this weekend to revelations that the town council stalwart had been living in a secluded cottage with his older sibling for several months. Both he and his sister are said to have walked out on their marriages. Adopted John Shannon, a 47-year-old civil servant well known in Yorkshire for his work safeguarding the region’s river-fish, first met his half-sister, Jennifer Grant, almost 18 months ago, after he began tracing his biological family. A year later, Mr Shannon had left behind Rosamond, his wife of 23 years, and their six-year-old son. Mrs Grant, a 49-year-old mother of two, left her husband, Graham, to whom she has been married for 29 years. ADVERTISING The relationship is thought to be the reason why Mr Shannon stepped down from the town council, where he has been chairman and twice mayor. Living reclusively in a rented cottage in nearby Nunnington, they have both withdrawn from community life. Mr Shannon’s adoptive parents, who live in Scarborough, were left aghast at the news. His adoptive mother, Sheila, last night confirmed that brother and sister were now living together. She said: “We know what’s been going on, but this is just too difficult for us. “We are too distraught to be able to talk about it without breaking down. We need to be left alone to come to terms with this situation.” The couple’s 75-year-old mother, named only as Dorothy, told a Sunday newspaper that her son had been born following a rape. She said she never wants to meet him again after bringing “dismay and embarrassment” on the family. Speaking from her York home, she said: “Now, after what they have done, I don’t care if I never see either of them again.” Mrs Grant’s brother Jeff, 53, added: “It seems John and Jennifer were instantly drawn to each other. I think she had been having marriage problems, and when she met John she was clutching at straws.” Chairman of the town council and county councillor, Betsy Hill, said: “These are people in my town who I deeply care about, and I will not bring them more misery by discussing the situation.” Clerk to the town council, Andrew Husband, said: “This really is a hell of a shock. Nobody really knew why he stood down from the council after so much good work over the 14 years he had been involved. “He outlined his reasons in a letter to the chairman. “He’s a very pleasant man, who has given body and soul for this town, but it’s a huge shock for a little place like this. It really is a bombshell.” Social worker Mrs Shannon, also 46, has declined to comment, as has Mrs Grant’s husband. Mr Shannon and his sister are now staying away from the public in a a rented hideaway, West Ness Farm cottage. The couple are thought to have gone away for a few days and they could not be located at their new home. A neighbour, who declined to be named, confirmed that he knew the couple were brother and sister.

Presumably he needed every penny he could get his hands on to pay for a B & B in Hove for 5 weeks.
