Well the doors were never particularly 'closed' were they?Hendrik wrote:no - it's just that we scouts were never deterred by 'closed doors'!Great Plum wrote:Most of the locks used to be pretty 'breakable' and winodws could always be opened...
not just the midnight band, your year seemed to be the last year to do all kinds of cool stuff.
though to be fair, you did make the most of it, iirc!
Yeah, I think my year was the last year that could have a good time on the last night...

I remember waking up on the last day one year to find Mr Marlowe's bike threaded over a lamp-post. Genius!
Gladding's mini in a bush was standard practice...
On my last night, amongst other things, we moved the pool table out from the club into the middle of the avenue in the quad - turns out there's quite a camber on that piece of road!
Oh, and when four of us attempted to lift a car at the back of dining hall, we went for a little run when Rick the nightwatchman chased us up and down the back ave for an hour or so!

I remember when the year above (I think) stole a sheep from one of the surrounding fields and dumped it in quad. There was talk of that for ages after!

yeah, it could have been... I just remember hearing about it.
If it was the Grecians of 2000, they were a year above me - I did my Grecians twice.

How virtuous we were in the 40s and 50s, compared with this lot!

No but........ no - it's just the one occasion when Mr Eagle didn't turn up to remove the padlock on the store where the high jump and hurdles equipment was stored and there was a large crowd waiting to train. Be prepared, that's the Boy Scouts marching song.
Be prepared , don't solic******** etc (If you were a scout you know the rest, if not you don't want to know what the university professor said)
That was a dead easy padlock to open ................

'Be prepared' - I was never a scout although the rest of my family were - I was heavily into Guiding both at school and thereafter. However you have quoted my favourite Tom Lehrer song, and I see no problem with quoting the line in full 'Don't solicit for your sister; it's not nice, unless you get a good percentage of her price' - it's just that you can't convey a tone of voice on paper! Note to self - must re-read Scouting for Boys - I seem to remember that BP expressed a number of opinions that have been found somewhat dubious in retrospect!

Well, it's good to see that an excellent education wasn't wasted! I expect the perpetrator is thriving in the world of politics...Nyort wrote:I remember last year, one of the leaving GE from Thorn A made a list of stuff he had to do before he left.
