Re: COVID19
I saw this morning a doctor claiming that the virus cannot survive above 28C - he ignores that normal blood temperature is 36.9C. Although now back in the UK, I'm still a member of a forum for expats in Thailand. Apparently, the theory is that the virus has a significantly shorter survival time out...

Re: Michael Streather (LHB, PeA 1968-75), RIP
Apparently his home town was Cambridge (see https://funeral-notices.co.uk/Eastern-Cambridgeshire-Cambridge/death-notices/notice/streather/4698306 ). LinkedIn has a Mike Streather, public health and health care intelligence analyst, economist and health information manager in Cambridge, who started u...

Re: Cross-country runs
This post, like the cross-country runs it refers to, constitutes cruel and unusual punishment, and if the Mods have any remaining shred of compassion they'll delete it immediately. Some boys were designed for such activity (the Sean Phelans of this world in my era), but for those of us built for str...

Re: Politics
Like most people I am a massive fan of the NHS but I am not sure it can go on as it is. The only real way to pay for improvements is to increase taxes and no political party seems willing to grip this particular issue. I am not talking just about increasing taxes on the better off but it needs to r...

I [...] am sad at the national F Off at anyone from a low-income background doing an honest day's work and striving to improve their lives. I'm inclined to agree, but I'm equally sad that a majority of those "from a low-income background doing an honest day's work and striving to improve their...

Re: Neil Simms
Neil Simms was a house tutor in my senior house for the whole four years I was there, in which context we only spoke once in all that time. Frankly he was pretty uninvolved in house activities and only seemed to put in the barest minimum of appearances necessary. His life seemed to be more about te...

Re: What were your thoughts about the theatre?
I don't remember Wounded Knee, but it seems that DNP had a definite western theme going when he first arrived, as I was in the last (I think) Big School production, Indians, centred around Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. No wooden horses, but I seem to recall there was a real pony, surely too small t...

Re: Politics
Anyway, that's just my take on the whole affair. An interesting and very readable take, though. My problem is who to vote for? I feel quite strongly that we should have stayed in, so that's the Tories off my list. I don't think I could bring myself to vote for Corbyn, even if I were ever able to wo...

Re: Congratulations To Joe Launchbury
Hmmm, I can't help thinking that we'd be saying the same about Kruis or Lawes if either of them was the OB (I'm assuming we all agree that Itoji is a shoo-in). Joe is just unfortunate that we have great strength in depth in the 2nd row. As for ... the 3rd place playoff! shame on you, Elvie! Blasphem...

I was lucky enough to be taught by Gerald and he was very supportive to me when I needed it. The only lesson I ever learned from Gerald Davies was extremely painful and occurred several times during a Colts vs Masters rugby match... Don't try to tackle the Ringer!! [Edit: and at 74 he looks a...

I'm guessing your talents led you in the direction of the prosecution rather than the defence. For the sake of defendants, I certainly hope so.

Re: Politics
By the way, why is the CH Unofficial website suddenly getting lots of ads for exotic eastern ladies looking for husbands? Do they suspect that the English boarding school turns out loads of repressed, inhibited chaps who would welcome a bit of oriental fun and games? I'm no expert, but I've always ...

I'm no expert, but I think you'll find that by WW2 they used tanks and the like rather than horses! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cavalry_regiments_of_the_British_Army In October 1928, a new era began as the 11th Hussars became the first regular cavalry regiment to "mechanise", to change f...
