Re: Aqua Manda

Well, I am having such fun catching up on all these threads! the onl private interview I ever had with DR was when she called me down to her study for the sole purpose of giving me stern telling off because my hair was too thick and curly!! 'You must have it thinned' she boomed. when I ventured to r...

Re: IVs, 5s, and 6s

Yes. I remember the book. Also being told that visiting wasn't allowed - I seem to remember having to ask permission from the housemistress of the house you were visiting

Re: Margaret Wilson, RIP

I've just picked up this thread and enjoyed it very much. My chief memory of british geography (which I still love, especially OS maps) is....'The fens are drained by three sluggish rivers, the Welland the Nene and the Ouse. I can also remember boring my children very much when on holiday in France ...

Re: IVs, 5s, and 6s

I rather bucked the trend at Hertford, since I joined in the UIV (3rd year), having taken the exam a bit later. I think I just squeaked in because I was a year young for the year, generally girls weren't allowed in after the LIV at the latest and very few joined after the IIIrd form. I remember stil...

Re: Miss Morrison

I am SO glad that my mention of Gormenghast started a books thread!! I absolutely agree that one can't like both LOTR and Gormenghast (can it be shortened - Gor perhaps?). I Loathe LOTR, which seems to me to be all about what they had to eat on the way. I must also pick up on GH, who is my constant ...

Re: Miss Morrison

We knew Miss Wilson, Miss Jukes and Miss Morrison as the Lion the witch and the wardrobe. I found Miss M and inspirational teacher - as someone else has said, she was generous in her attitude to set books and let us have free range of the choices. The Good Companions, which we read with her, is stil...

Bad timing!

Thank you all for responding to my post - I went on holiday the next day, so have not responded. I sent a form back to Kent COBS ages ago, in response to the letter you have printed here, Geoffrey, but haven't been to any gatherings since then. While not exactly a young OB, I am still working so don...

Bad timing!

many thanks for your welcome! I haven't done anything to do with the school for years (apart from taking my younger daughter to the seslection for a sixth form place, which she then turned down as CH looked too spartan!), so it's strange to be getting in touch again. there doesn't seem to be an asso...

Bad timing!

Hello everyone! This is my first post on the website and I have a sense of having timed things really poorly. On my first visit to the wesite last night I was rather excited to find that there is another hertford old girl of my era in Headcorn (not the largest and likeliest place). I excitedly poste...
