Re: Overseas entrants

An interesting conundrum for the school. It is not clear fom lippizaners post, nor need it necessarily be so, whether they are hoping for a full fee paying place, or bursary assistance. But such an application is certainly becoming more commmon, and in some cases may even be overloading some schools...

Re: New Bursaries policy

Hi, here is a cut and paste from the Bursary Policy on the school website. "Bursaries are expressed as a percentage reduction from the prevailing school fees. So, for example, an 80% bursary would mean that the parents would only need to meet 20% of the current level of School fees. Bursaries a...

Re: New Bursaries policy

Lets take :master Q whose parents are far from well off. School fees are £20.000 and the bursary is £ 18.000 at the start. With inflation the fees rise 5% per annum for the next 5 years so the fees become £25.515 but the bursary becomes £19800: the parents contribution has risen from £2.000 to...

Re: New Bursaries policy

I'm with JR and sejintenej here, solidly behind making provision for the most needy, at a number that the foundation can afford from its funds. Chasing income by selection of more well off parents does not make economic or educational sense, nor do Old Blues wish to dig deep into their pockets to pr...

Re: Strange old man dressed in WW1 army gear / dog named lob

I only recall helping Kirby a couple of times towards the end of my time, but the memory has remained so strong and pleasant, that I have just implemented a policy of keeping bees here at my school for the pupils.

Re: Lamb House Photos

Hi Tim, what terrific response. It is extraordinary when reading someones contribution here, because as soon as they give a name, the face immediately springs to mind without needing to look at the photo on the previous page. What a shame it doesn't work the other way round. I am sure that back then...

I hope and believe you would still get the same chance. It is exactly why the Foundation is there.

Re: First year nearly over

My one big regret is that I did not go to CH as a child myself, I would have absoloutely loved it! Theoretically, CH would have been such a life-changing experience that you would be earning too much to be eligible for anything but a full fee-paying place for your son! Delighted that it has been su...

Re: Parental Contribution

The level of contribution, or sacrifice, or measure of financial need will vary from school to school. If you have a gifted child, you are fortunate in that many schools, day and boarding, will wish to have your child as an exemplar to others in the school. If this is the case then my advice is to s...

Re: Anxious parents

The problem for me in my time at CH for 9 years from age 9 was change. I pretty much loved being at home and loved being at school (after a couple of miserable years cos 9 is tooooooo young). My mother has subsequently told me that the thing she hated most was packing the trunk a week before we went...

Re: Berkshire Old Blues

After many years of unstintingly selfless service, the Newbury Old Blues Committee put out a request for assistance, and I was foolish enough to stick my head above the parapet. Donald Willis, the indomitable President promptly declared me the new Chairman, and at the delayed Founders Day Dinner at ...
