Re: Bad things you didnt get caught doing (Sausage in Communion)

I forgot about the time the Nurse's little boy let all the rabbits out of their hutches and they all mated before we could get them gathered up. Mine ("Dylan") had 17 babies that Summer!! That was when the spiffy new hutches were 3 high, near the tennis court. They used to be roomier but m...

Re: Bad things you didnt get caught doing (Sausage in Communion)

There were always pranks to play if not actively engaged in sports! Remember the rose beds by the tennis courts - the itching powder from the hips, which one could drop down the back of someone's shirt etc. I never realized there was a basement in the school block. I should have - because of Sin Cit...

Re: underwear

Your mention of "splintery benches" reminded me that the parquet floor of the Dorm was unfinished. Woe betide the person who slid her feet instead of picking them up - the splinters were huge and painful - especially under a nail. We perfected the art of {relatively} painless surgical spli...

Re: Farting

I don't know either why men are so intrigued by farting, even to the point of practising it. My two brothers were at Housey and one told me that a boy there was thought very highly of because he could fart tunefully - apparently he could even do the first part of "God save the Queen" and ...

Re: Housemistresses

What era does the 'Christs Hospital in Photographs' cover? I was not aware of such a book.

Re: underwear

I have had great fun reading old postings whenever I have a cancellation, here at work. I am reviving an old thread because it was very amusing to catch up with horrors that I had forgotten!! The Blues and liners!! The 'T" that was so obvious above someone's skirt, when they raised their arms, ...

Re: Hertford Memories - The Book

CH is beginning to sound more and more Dickensian - I love it!! So - 'foul winds do blow' after Saturday stew, which is fashioned from unfathomable species and manufactured in mammoth paddle ridden vats in labrynthine cellars. Excellent!!! (Please Sir, can I have some more????) I am looking forward ...

Re: "They were sweet and meant well"

I've just remembered an incident from about 4th form, I think. You know how some teachers want to start out giving a certain impression - ie that they will brook no nonsense etc -, well - Chemi T (Ms Thompson) must have left and this was probab;y her replacement, but the new teacher waltzed into the...

Re: Bad things you didnt get caught doing (Sausage in Communion)

We wanted to see if the 'vaguer' teachers really paid attention (maybe 3rd form??) and so those who took german went to Mr Upton's latin class and the Latinites went to Miss Riddiford. I volunteered to translate a passage for DGS Upton - and I think the game was up by the time I had stammered throu...

Re: 2s 1970-1976+

Lynn - there was a rumour not long after we left CH that she married Baron Zessner von Spitzenburger (or some such name) at quite a young age and moved to Vienna. I believe she had a daughter a few weeks before I had my oldest son (May '83) - so she may live near you. Can you see if Zessner von Spit...

Re: 1974 mons

Glad to be able to help out! :) I think alot of our year, both A and B forms- left at the end of 5th form - some, such as Sue Kirkup did A levels at other schools or colleges - don't know if that was because DR was retiring, or maybe they just wanted their freedom after 5years!! I know that's how I...
