Re: Reading Half Marathon - March 21st!!! Too soon....

Good luck. Did it a few years ago. have to say that I found the CH runs more interesting. The only pretty bit of the reading HM was through the University. It was a deadly dull jaunt otherwise.

Re: Scout Camp....

Do you put sisal (is that how you spell it?) around your patrol site (I mean tent!)?? Umm... we're quite territorial but tend to go for the more passive agressive approach utilising a washing line, wind breaks and parked cars. We find that this is also less likely to garot any children running blin...

Re: Scout Camp....

Agh. Reveile. My darling husband has that as his wake up alarm on his phone. Every ****ing morning - dah da dah da da-da-da-dah-da Even the cats are trained to respond to it now, and will only enter the bedroom on hearing it to demand where their breakfast is. Sadly they haven't learnt to make the t...

via running over the beds. That extra bit of height made it possible.

I also remember people climbing over the cubicles in the upper dorm. Perhaps we didn't have enough work to do.

Re: MEMORABLE THEATRE OR MUSIC CONCERT AT CH

How cool! Not wishing to sound too gushy, but Kirily is probably the person who was most key in encouraging me into the Theatre and liking Shakespeare (I think she was a PA on Macbeth on my squits) and encouraging me to try new stuff like Photography. The theatre was fab for me (along with scouts) i...

Re: Keeping warm in a housey

Oh yes. And I had favourite pairs of bands too. Some of them were a bit flimsie and simply didn't look right.

Re: Does anyone on this forum go to church?

I go. But after seven years of all the formality of religion at CH (and no one explaining any of it - e.g. the dressing up, the bowing, the signs etc) I've slipped right down the candle and also became a local preacher in the Methodist Church (like an Anglican reader). I love encouraging people to t...

Re: Scout Camp....

Ah yes, the welford scout camp... one of the best venues even with the cowpats, the spring that runs into the canal and that it's on a farm so the only toilet facilities are the elsans! Oh happy days. Not my favourite Scout Camp (obvs that was the Wye Valley) but it was still lovely. As for the mud...

Re: Keeping warm in a housey

I rarely got cold in my housey (it was the bands flicking in my face that was the most annoying...) Too right! Especially when they were fresh on from the laundry. I've got a couple of friends who've become church ministers and they complained bitterly about their dog collars.. until I showed them ...

Re: Master Keys

Um - still got an old master key in my jewelry box. The previous owners to our current home had locks installed on all the internal doors (they were a bit odd...) and they're of the old master key variety and the codes on the keys match those used in CH "back in my day" (the Theatre and Mu...

Re: STOOLBALL

And I remember hurdling beds and somehow vaulting wardrobes in Barnes A (the remains of 5's & 6's) in the eighties. Absolute lunacy. Those little RAF wardrobes were very unstable.

Re: MEMORABLE THEATRE OR MUSIC CONCERT AT CH

I was in BaA (if you don't mind! ) We presented one of the Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen's Guild Dramatic Society plays. Have to say it's all a bit of a blur now. Can't even remember which play it was. I can remember Katy Binnington being quite pleased with the excuse to smoke openly on ...

Re: What Doesn't Happen At CH These Days?

The smell of floor polish still whisks me back to Housey in an instant. It was at its most distinct in the stair well walking into house at the beginning of term. I guess with carpets and sealed floors this "aroma" probably doesn't exist anymore. I used to love the fusty, musty, dustiness ...
