Re: Automotive Anecdotes
JDS had a silver Renault 5 Gordini when I first appeared at CH. I have never seen anyone drive with such recklessness and utter speed. I think he would have stood a good chance if he'd entered the RAC Rally... He replaced this rusty old wreck of a Renault with a green Mk1 Golf GTi. Which of course w...

Re: Senior Grecian's privileges
School Monitors in General were allowed to grow beards when I was there. I remember at least 2 from my early days at CH (I think one was a guy called Jon Curd) who had a face full of fuzz  In the late 80's though I think beards were deemed "unfashionable" so nobody grew them. Either t...

I do, but as he never wants any pictures of him in CH uniform tagged on FB I am not prepared to release it. Why not ask him?

Maine A still had Just 17 in 1995? Awesome! Thought that was just a "tradition" from my time! No idea who started it but everyone seemed to enjoy reading itGreat Plum wrote:In Maine A, we had the Telegrpah, The Sun, The New Scientist, Just 17 (!!) and The Beano on subscription...

Re: Sad news
Such a tragic situation. Having been a contemporary and friend of Richard Slater's this brings it all back. CH is very very good at dealing with this sort of thing - they offer fantastic support from pupils and staff alike (I speak from all too familiar experience). I send my condolences to all affe...

Re: I can understand
Such questionnaires are simply for those that like to tick boxes i.e. not the person filling them in, but the data analyst in a small office somewhere who can collate the information and make it appear everyone who went to the school is successful. I have had a chequered career path and as I am not ...

Re: Twins
John and David Hampson in Maine 84-91 - looked totally different to each other. I vaguely also remember Mat and Michael Harvey who left in I think 1984 ish. Can't remember if they were both school monitors? They really did look identical. Apart from Charlotte and Emily Jewsbury I can't think of any ...

Re: Automotive Anecdotes
Was indeed a yellow Mini. Used to belong to James MacLean... You have this Mini mixed with another one......it wasn't the one which belonged to James. Aah. Got that snippet from someone who'd heard it from someone at the time so probably not the same one then  Both cars were yellow and about t...

Re: Automotive Anecdotes
Aah Wurzel he must have embellished the story a bit  I remember an Old Blue (I think it might have been Nick Angel) brought a beautiful looking modified yellow Mini back for OBD and drove it fairly quickly from the Front Ave between Barnes and Maine to the Back Ave. Unfortunately he misjudged t...

Re: Security to visit CH these days
I think that providing your visit is genuine, and the powers that be know about it i.e you have informed the school office that you're coming for a visit you should have no issues. I certainly wouldn't recommend just turning up and expecting to be let in. As far as I am aware there are no specific q...

Re: Automotive Anecdotes
Toby I remember the aftermath of the "Rolled Mini" incident - Me and Roger Garland saw it in a hedge and worked out what had happened by the various chunks of missing verge and gouges and paint on the road surface... I also heard that the year after I left Mrs Jeffers foolishly allowed a c...

Re: BOYS' SHOES
Yes, Wurzel's right - it was in 1985. Still remember going to the Wardrobe round the back of Dining Hall after breakfast to get replacement shoes after outgrowing mine. There was the guy who sounded like (and was nicknamed) "Davros" who used to greet you in his metallic voice and say "...

No Chaz, completely different family. Tim was the other son in the year above me (left 1989) and there was also a daughter who I think was called Naomi.
