Re: Who would you Shop?
Thanks Robert - that’s all I wanted to know. It’s very upsetting to hear, though, that these crimes continue to occur despite the flux of recent, public prosecutions and the apparently more robust safeguarding measures that have been implemented since I left in the late nineties.

Robert, does this date correspond to the range of time you’ve looked at or the last case that you know of?robert totterdell wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 3:11 pmPink' has actually come up in my research and is one of the reasons that I have been able to follow sexual abuse at CH from 1949 to 2019(20).

Re: Ken Grimshaw
Of course, Ken was a 'corporal punishment' enthusiast, as noted on this thread, and here: 'I can clearly recall Ken Grimshaw showing a bunch of us squits in Maine B his punishment log, in 1990 or 91.': https://www.chforum.info/php/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=5219&p=142729#p142729 (the log was no d...

Re: Who would you Shop?
In my position as a university professor in the USA, I’m a mandated reporter. That means that any incident of emotional, physical or sexual abuse involving a student, postdoctoral researcher or staff member that I hear about, whether rumor or statement of fact, or reported by the victim or some con...

Re: Ben Breakwell convicted of abuse
I expect he’s looking at at least 18 years. Very little information him before he started offending. Does anyone remember him from CH? Yeah, he was a couple years below me (plum’s year, I think). He came to CH as a promising musician - I was head chorister the year he started and Allwood brought hi...

Re: Black Lives Matter
But does Firefox have to export it around the world? Firefox uses a set of algorithms that track browser history and suggest news articles that might be of interest to the user. It probably thought you would be interested in this story given the amount of time you’ve spent on this thread, as well a...

Re: Black Lives Matter
CARE; HIGHLY OFFENSIVE I have just had foisted upon me the most offensive racist spiel which happens to come from the USA; it is not something I can avoid. If you open for example Windows Explorer you get a screen with Microsoft News. OK, I find it hard to read because it is so bitty. I happen to p...

Re: Black Lives Matter
No reasonable person of any colour or creed is going to dispute the ideology. The conduct of the organisation taking that ideology as its name is open to debate. Im not sure this is either true or what you mean. Is it the conduct of the organization, which in fact promotes peaceful protest, civil d...

Re: Black Lives Matter
My pointing out the differences in prospects/outlook etc of similar coloured people (i.e. Nigerians etc) is valid - and goes to show to some extent that the systemic and structural problems are also ones rooted within communities. I was going to say it's not valid but, on reflection, I will say it ...

Re: Black Lives Matter
I think I also previously answered this question. Some recent immigrants might well perform better than the population average but the population that BLM is focusing on is very specifically African American (I speak of the US, where the movement originated, but one could also speak of Black Britis...

Re: Black Lives Matter
Irish travellers and Romany Gypsies are two very different and distinct groups. The former have somehow managed to persuade the authorities that they are a distinct ethnic group but, in reality, they are just normal Irish folk, ie wholly white and entirely European. It is their lifestyle not their ...

Re: Black Lives Matter
You said what would have taken me about a paragraph to say! And the situation is aggravated when those who believe black lives matter less, are authorities and law enforcement. Thanks Otter, but I can't take the credit - i paraphrased a sign that a woman wrote for a demonstration a year or so ago a...

A timely book has just come out titled 'Caste, The Lies That Divide Us' by Isabel Wilkerson, an Afro-American ex-journalist with the New York Times. She argues that caste as opposed to skin colour is the problem. Her coverage takes in America, India, Nazi Germany and elsewhere. "Caste is insid...

Re: Black Lives Matter
Haha, JR, I was waiting for this. Yes, life matters, but apparently many people seem to think Black lives matter less that white lives, so that's what we're talking about right now.
