CH as a sitcom? What a great thread.
Certainly some stories on this forum - such as a sausage in communion and the tales about Kirby - qualify.
And yes, I can see some similarities between CH and Father Ted.
Buckaroo.... the sport of kings anyone?

Re: Speech Day at CH 1932
This may have come up on the forum before, but I've only just come across it on You Tube:

Fascinating stuff, particularly as it's around the same period that my father (John Strange, Md A 32-39) was at CH.

Re: Roger Wilson RIP
I was sad to hear this news. Roger Wilson was my housemaster from 1971-75. We didn't always see eye to eye (understatement), but he seemed a reasonable man. He was clearly long-suffering, as this crazy anecdote will confirm. One leave day, my father took me down to Brighton. For some unknown reason ...

Re: When We were Very Young
This is a wonderful thread that my wife and I have been thoroughly enjoying. It's especially appropriate since one of our most recent books at bedtime has been 'Jennings Goes to School' - the very first of the lengthy series of prep school tales by Anthony Buckeridge. In the book, Jennings and Darbi...

Re: Greg Strange RIP
Your condolences are very much appreciated. Greg's death in 2014 came as a huge shock to us all. I haven't felt able to comment about it on the forum until now. Perry Kitchen's full obituary - including more about Greg's life at CH - is here: http://www.choba.org.uk/old-blues/obituaries/obituary/?pd...

40th anniversary 1974-75 leavers
It may have been wet, but what a great day we had at CH today.
So many people to meet, so much to catch up on, so many memories.
Thank you CHOBA for putting it together. The day far exceeded my expectations.
Brilliant.

Hilarious comment Rockfreak. Hopefully it won't be moderated...
I wasn't much cop at this debating lark, but I do recall Rex Sweeney being rather fine in the early 70s.

Re: Wearing of C H uniform
Going home in CH uniform was phased out, circa 1971. I was in Leigh Hunt A at the time and I remember that in my first couple of years (69/70) we had to wear Housey uniform to go home in at the end of term. But the big change came circa 71, when we were allowed to wear civvies on leave days and to g...

Re: photo wanted
Hi. Just wanted to further congratulate John Wexler on his superb collection of CH photos from the early 60s. Some of them are terrific, and really sum up Housey at this time.
I'd also be interested to see the Tate & Lyle photo, so hope it can be posted soon.

Re: Jicker, Housey slang and individual Houses
Great thread guys... Late-60s and early-70s CH slang still included: crug (bread), flab (butter), muck (jam), kiff (tea), and squit (new boy). We used these terms in Leigh Hunt A. However I noticed that the terms were used less as I moved up to Peele A, circa 72-75. I also recall "bodge", ...

Re: Noseblowing by numbers - how did it work?
Fascinating and thank you all for your replies. So we know that the practice definitely existed at CH, but we're still not precisely sure how it worked. We think it may have been - 1. lift handkerchief to nose; 2. blow; 3. stop. This was repeated two or three times - but can anyone definitely confir...

Noseblowing by numbers - how did it work?
I remember my dad mentioning noseblowing by numbers at CH in the 1930s, but I can't remember the full details.
How did it work? Why was the practice introduced? And when did it finish?

Ah... you're referring to a "Sausage In Communion", one of the funniest threads on this forum:

Re: Death of Bomber Nicholson
I’ve just heard the very sad news via the latest CHOBA newsletter. I was one of those who was very privileged to know Chris as a junior housemaster, as an English teacher and as a personal friend. Back in June 2010 my first post on this forum were my memories of Chris and other favourite masters. I ...
