Re: Brexit
OK, Mr Bell, I find that extremely objectionable and take serious personal offence. I voted for Brexit and am proud that I did so. Just for the record, I have lived in Austria, Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands, in all of which I made local friends. I speak German (albeit not as well now as I us...

Re: Brexit
Here's an idea. Everyone who voted in the referendum of 2016 pays £1000 into a fund which is then invested (overseas to ensure a reasonable return). After 10 years if Brexit is a success; it is then shared out amongst the Leave voters. If it's a disaster, the remainers get the money. I'd be happy t...

My post was most definitely 'of the moment' and seeing that this has passed I've deleted it to avoid confusion. This may mean some thread tidying. Apologies.

Re: Now it reaches Eton
Just to track back a bit regarding the debate about how we perceive people's characters, and with reference to the character witnesses for Karim. Back in Prep B in the 1950s you wouldn't have thought that our housemaster Gordon Pink was anything other than a caring guy. Even his slipperings were ha...

Somehow my post this morning disappeared into the yonder ether With the following CV I suggest that people would be "careful" in dealing with Mrs Cairncross Former member of the HMC Inspection Steering Group on the editorial committee of the HMC magazine “Conference & Common Room”. Tr...

Re: R Rae
He was Fourth Master in my day, behind THK and HFS. Moved up to Third when THK retired. They must have been bewildered having to sit next to Cairncross in Chapel. What a pygmy. Who? It’s worth remembering that THK and Rae were in the senior management team during the period of endemic child abuse. ...

Re: CH Official site: a plethora of pomposity and pedantry
I like free speech, I like a good debate, I like heated debates. I like at times in a debate to provoke. I like the fact that in debating occasionally one gets a ' I had not thought of that' experience. I like the fact that listening to other people increases my knowledge. What I do not like are pe...

Re: Elizabeth Cairncross
An indicative story. Sometime in the mid 80’s rice pudding was served to the school. Almost in unison there was a groan of surprise from the tables. The reason? Salt had been used instead of sugar. It was inedible. For 850 people. No form of tasting or quality control had been done between pantry an...
