Re: Going nuts at CH
An interesting post, thank you. I live abroad during the last 46 years ( my experience at CH was not brilliant ) two weeks after passing through the main gate for the last time. I was asked to leave which was basically similar to winning the lottery. Nowadays when I visit England it is as a tourist....

Re: Going nuts at CH
I note with interest that a group of senior pupils have instigated a symposium on mental health at school. They are including some state schools in their project but there are some prestigious boarding schools as well. What do we deduce from this? Is this the final admission (as some have long conc...

Re: Black Lives Matter
Ignorant, racist, both or neither? I very recently attended a chinese burial in Harlow for a friend who was born and bred there. Like all his siblings and cousins, he had been fluent in chinese and spoke english like any person born here. "We was going to go to the seaside but it rained" ...

I too always thought that his nickname was spelt with a f. Was that not due to the strange noise he made when inhaling?

Re: Leave Days in Horsham
Being one of those pupils who should not have been at CH due to chronic homesickness Leave Days were a nightmare. I remember counting how many days minutes and seconds until I could meet my parents again, and then doing the same on the actual day until it ended. A very sad experience. We usually end...

Re: COVID19
Coping Strategy. I get up at 6 am at work by 7.15 am. Eat lunch out, finish work at about 3pm. Do some shopping and then 3 evenings a week Bandy training. ( hockey played on ice but not ice hockey ) Weekends are spent visiting children and grandchildren. To be honest it has not really affected me. (...

Re: CH Official site: a plethora of pomposity and pedantry
I like free speech, I like a good debate, I like heated debates. I like at times in a debate to provoke. I like the fact that in debating occasionally one gets a ' I had not thought of that' experience. I like the fact that listening to other people increases my knowledge. What I do not like are peo...

Re: What were your thoughts about the theatre?
I took part in what I believe to be the first ever production in the Theatre. A play about Wounded Knee. I recall that I rode around on a wooden horse. It was embarrasing at the time and still is.

Re: Anyone else who hated being at CH ?
Rockfreak, I think you summed it up quite well. I have often thought about what the school was trying to form us into. A couple of centuries ago it was quite easy to understand: you were the person in the rear rank who shouted " attack " and the "front rank died". Nowadays perhap...

Re: Did monitors have any real use?
Were there cases of senior boys who, for whatever reason, were never appointed as a monitor? Yes - in part. For spending a balmy summer Saturday night at Horham fair trying to chat up a girl from Broadbridge Heath who had a Saturday job in Woolworths, on my return (at about 11.30pm) I was given 6 b...

Were they not able to give out " Sit-downs " as punishment? I think it was a maximum of two ( 10 minutes ) before you were reported to a master. Nowadays I am not quite sure about using the word master!

Re: On a happier note: The Good Teachers!
There is already a posting called Favourite Teachers on this Forum and so maybe this new thread is doubling up what has been said unless and being pedantic there is a difference between a good teacher and favourite one :P The reason I posted this thread here is because over a long period of time a ...
