Re: Old and New London by Walter Thornbury
At the start of 2020 I was working in the town of Kiruna. ( a place in the far north of Sweden where the whole town is being dismantled and moved as SKAB are to start mining under the town ) and with a few hours to spend before my flight left I visited a second hand bookshop. And there I found a cop...

Re: Brexit
I have still been thinking about what is good with Brexit and realised that we have all missed a very important fact: In the UK one will be hopefully in the near future be able to buy more powerful Hoovers, not the somewhat weaker types found in Europe. I wrote earlier that Duty Free is coming back ...

Re: Brexit
After many hours of hard thinking I came up with something!!!
Tax free! Yes it is true I will now be able to bring back 2 litres of spirits with me. Plus fags. But not snuff ( snus ).
I will keep thinking but am not really cetain if there is something else.

Re: Britt or European
Politics is involved in much of our life whether we like it our not. The whole Brit or European thing has been taken up by the Tory Brexiteer tendency to try and demean the European part of our heritage. I imagine that the axing of the Erasmus scholarship exchange programme is part of that. In othe...

Re: Britt or European
Why is it that every time somebody posts a somewhat more lighthearted topic " rockfreak " feels obliged to turn it into politics ? This was a topic started by me that I think concerns a lot of us who spent time at CH and now live in all four corners of the world. Brexit for us who live in ...

Britt or European
I have noticed that a fairly large amount of people here live abroad or work there, some like myself have been living away from the UK for years. I have been living in this country since 1975 a year after I left CH. What are we now? Are we still Britts or are we Europeans ? I suppose I consider myse...

Surely the majority of European countries are based on this? Maybe they have not taken the idea as far as at least one Scandinavian country but otherwise quite similar.

Brexit
This topic should perhaps be here. It is getting better all the time. Boris has just decided that if diplomacy does not work...bring in the Gun Boats..which is a form of diplomacy ( back in the Rule Brittania days ) So how does Macron answer? Send his rather large aircraft carrier along the Channel?...

No I did not see it.
But the mens game was horribly boring. There will be a lot of fed up players in a year or two. Defence defence etc etc.

Re: Going nuts at CH
It's a balance act! The BBC once stood up for reporting what was going on in the world no more and no less. ( this explains why for those of us who have spent years abroad the World Service was so vitally important ) The BBC has now developed it's own political bias which leans to the left. The Mail...

Re: Going nuts at CH
An interesting post, thank you. I live abroad during the last 46 years ( my experience at CH was not brilliant ) two weeks after passing through the main gate for the last time. I was asked to leave which was basically similar to winning the lottery. Nowadays when I visit England it is as a tourist....

Re: Going nuts at CH
I note with interest that a group of senior pupils have instigated a symposium on mental health at school. They are including some state schools in their project but there are some prestigious boarding schools as well. What do we deduce from this? Is this the final admission (as some have long conc...

Ignorant, racist, both or neither? I very recently attended a chinese burial in Harlow for a friend who was born and bred there. Like all his siblings and cousins, he had been fluent in chinese and spoke english like any person born here. "We was going to go to the seaside but it rained" ...

I too always thought that his nickname was spelt with a f. Was that not due to the strange noise he made when inhaling?
