Re: Roger Martin - trial

The usual stuff from the school. Has any other school ever had so many teachers convicted of sexual offences against pupils? What seems to be a theme in cases of historical sexual abuse at schools was that it wasn’t unusual for teachers who were reported to have committed sexual offences against th...

Re: Can we get transcripts?

And it is very expensive I was asked to try and get sentencing comments for a case for work- the court no longer had copies even though it was relatively recent. The transcription service told me it would be about £300 plus VAT! Sentencing comments from the Judge are usually a few pages long depend...

Re: REMOVAL OF CHOBA MEMBERSHIP

The trial previously heard from an alleged victim who said housemaster Bob Sillett, a senior staff member, implied she would risk being named in the press if the school dealt with Mr Karim "publicly". She said: "There was the implication that my name might be published." I find ...

Re: Who Knew What?

I remember the bandmaster "elopement". It was referred to in a certain school satirical magazine of the time... Thinking back on it now, I bet there were also some issues of sexual abuse with older boys pupils as perpetrators. I was in lamb A and there was a real weird Grecian who had a s...

Re: Help the newbie!

As with others, this is from memories of the 90's; 1: Yep, usually metal although as long as they are IRB approved they should be fine. I played as a prop (I wasn't much good though  ) and got away with football boots for most of my time. Played a few house league games in trainers and mountai...

Re: Expelled

I seem to remember several pupils being ‘asked to leave’ and moved to KES Whitley, which I assume is linked to CH in some way. I don’t know why KES would have been keen to take pupils who didn’t meet CH’s standards of behaviour, but apparently they were. I also don’t know whether staff ever moved b...

Re: Karim's sentence hearing

I was there in the mid 90s and was surprised by how many of the staff I knew from those days are still there or may have returned after a break.
At another school I attended only the PE teacher remained 20 years down the line.

Those comments from the tennis club who later employed him are utterly shameful.

Re: Which prison?

HMP Parkhurst is currently holding mostly sex offenders - the prisons on the Island all merged a few years ago. Not sure what ‘stage’ in your sentence you need to have reached to be moved there. Did find it quite amusing to see lots of HMP Parkhurst mugs in the local tourist shops, presumably made w...

Re: What was the food chain?

My 1985 Blue book has all the Almoners and which entity they came from. I'll scan it and post it soon. Perhaps someone can cross refer with current Council to see if any of the old guard still exist. Id wager the legal restructuring of the school is a cynical effort to get rid if the old, culpable ...

Re: How far did the rot spread?

I am not sure what shows up on DBS results but if some schools still use the system of moving on those who have abused at the school/are suspected of doing so without referring to the police, then surely these offences wouldn’t show up in future DBS checks. Do they only show instances where the poli...

Somewhat ironically, given the current circumstances he finds himself in, I remember him referring to the ‘inmates of Middleton A’. I suppose these days he will be getting to know the inmates from C Wing.

Re: Today's the day

I saw a tiny end of the school (Peele) yesterday from a passing train. I’ve not been back for about 20 years. Even that small glimpse was unnerving. I have thought about the school a lot in the past few months. For many years I believed I mostly enjoyed my brief time at the school but looking back a...

Re: Christ's Hospital / The Church of England / Child Abuse

In response to a previous comment about the school doing nothing in 2016, why do the school offer their own contacts for former pupils to speak to if they have any concerns? I’m sure one of the general letters sent by Mr Reid in recent months listed the school’s services ahead of the police and othe...
