Re: A letter from the CHOBA board
Out of fairness to Canon Porteous, this is the Facebook of the erstwhile CH chaplain who describes himself as a former priest. ABOUT MICHAEL Not a lot. Went to Bathurst Teachers College, about 1956, taught Cranbrook, Sydney for a couple of years, then Highate School, London. Greycoat Hospital (schoo...

A nice tribute to Baker in the Old Leysian.
The last of the Headmaster Dons.
Ken Naylor who taught music, played the organ and was a talented arranger, also gets a mention.

Re: All this is incredibly sad
It's not a perfect system but it's better than the alternative of a panel of suitably qualified and sufficiently educated wise persons. Thank you FourEyes for your generous and considered comments.
You are absolutely right to draw attention to the importance of giving lay persons the final say rather than leaving it to Judges who sometimes do not follow the advice they impart to a jury during summing up.

Re: All this is incredibly sad
I have done jury service three times. I wonder if Golfer has ever been called? The vast majority.of jurors fulfil their public duty diligently and conscientiously. On one occasion a young unemployed woman refused to engage in our deliberations as she was indignant at having to give up her valuable t...

Re: Explanation of the 'Tube'
We were often allowed to use The Tube when it was raining to go to Dining Hall. There's no way it extended to Sharpenhurst! I didn't know about all the other passageways though. Hopefully someone can set up the occasional tour, it would be very interesting Highly unlikely though that would be good....

His only misdemeanour was that he left to become Head of History at The Enemy.

Re: All this is incredibly sad
I really am very heartened by these policies. I couldn't give a fig about the odd spelling mistake or grammatical error. If those are your priorities then go back to your cave. I particularly like the policy on Standards of Pupil Behaviour which states that respect for others and their property must...
