Uniforms

This applies to the Hertford era. I guess things are different now.

Our uniforms all were designed
To keep us from vain turns of mind
And some of us tried
But we couldn't decide
If they looked worse in front or behind.

Looks like that's put a plug in it. Perhaps they couldn't take it in spite of their encouragement to 'lower the tone'.Here's my latest, not specifically about CH but re this thread. If limericks are to be lewd You'll sometimes offend the odd prude When all's said and done They can't be much fun If y...

Well, good idea - but 21 people have looked in and no one is helping you out! So, here I go. CH is a school I know well There're so many tales I could tell, Of things that went on, But now that I've gone I don't need to focus on . . . . a place that I found extraordinarily difficult to cope with. I'...

englishangel and Euterpe - you're several years after me but still seem to have had some of the same problems. I agree with you, especially the bit about standing up to authority and the A level misfits. I often look back and think why didn't I in a more practical way? Part of the problem is that wh...

Re: Kinky?

OK. there you are. I've edited the post that made you choke on your gruel. BUT this sort of thing makes me choke on mine - have to make do? whatever turns up? What is he doing, sitting on a bench by the seaside ogling passers by, and bemoaning the fact that few people, apparently, notice his sterlin...

Such conflicting views re CH finances! Out here in the colonies one OB told me he has read that CH is among the richest schools in England. What happened to the money they got for Hertford? Someone built a supermarket on the playing fields - they must have paid a few million for that nice flat space...

I wouldn't know from my own experience, of course, but I have a friend who talked of such a man. I helped my friend write his autobiography which is now in print, and in it he mentions a Mr. Kirby, whom he credits with his own interest in, and ultimately very successful career in science.

First time I've looked in here. I was very interested in Vonny's post - she must have thought she'd died and gone to heaven moving to Horsham. Quite a culture shock. I was glad to see the posts from the over fifties who were at Hertford- not that I am trying to create a sob club - but at least I don...

Emigrated to Canada 30 years ago - never looked back But I have BEEN back from time to time - still have family there- and feel claustrophobic geographically, would be unable to cope economically - unless I worked the system - and don't fit in socially with the changes in demographics, mores and eth...

Looking for Mary Skirme [STILL LOOKING...]

Does anyone know where Mary Skirme is? She may have a married name. But at Hertford, she and I engaged in some escapist literature called the Black Night Gang Magazine, in which we created scenarios that provided some distraction from the miserable lives we were living. I've often wondered what happ...

THanks Lamma looker (intrigued by your userid). I tried it and it worked. I haven't left it that way - just wanted to know how to do it! And thanks Taylor. I won't put much more info up at this point - but may one day.

I clicked on your profile by mistake and came to the place where all your stats are. I see you have managed to highlight the part of NA where you live. How did you do that? I did send a post once asking someone how to adjust the things on the profile page but the person couldn't tell me. I wrote a l...

A bit Leary

THank you menace for your few kind words -which I think they are underneath. But I did shiver when I read the bit about unhappiness as being part of growing up. That sentiment, expressed so many times during my teenage years as I stood on the mat in front of this or that glowering person, came back ...
