Re: Looking for those in School Plays 1973 to 1976
Chris Grady's recent open invitation has set me reminiscing about Drama at CH, when I was there in the early 70s. CH was leaping ahead of other schools in terms of Drama with the setting up of a Drama Department and the appointment of Duncun Noel-Paton. And then the wild ambition to build a Theatre,...

Re: Death of Ben Sweeny alias Spoonbill
Heck Rex,
So sorry for your loss.
I had spent ages trying to work out who Spoonbill was but never got to to Ben.
Regards
John

Re: Ken Grimshaw
Bringing it back to Ken Grimshaw, I remember him teaching me Techical Drawing for O Level and always appreciated his patience, although I expect I tried it near to his limit! I have used my drawing 'skills' (not so hot) a number of times through my working life especially when I was running my own f...

Re: Matrons
Funny how the last two posts were 'my' matrons. I remember both Miss Hague (as I was in LHB 70 to 73, and Miss Benbow (ThA 73 to 75). Miss Hague was firm but supportive and so had an assistant (think she may have been Scottish) who seemed more friendly. Certainly we preferred the assistant for Matro...

Re: Christ's Hospital Singers LP
Be great if you could put the names to the Choir in your photo please.
I sang in Chapel Choir 1970 to about 74 and I recognise most of the faces but left in 75.
I have done the world a favour and not carried on singing!

Re: New daily maths puzzle - give it a go and share?
I'm not much of a mathematician. My O level sylabus at CH was School Mathematics Projects, looked down upon by higher sets who always said SMP (on the book covers) stood for SiMPle! So when I was on an ONC Engineering course I struggled. What does the world need quadratic equations for? Whereas how ...

Re: Sausages!
I enjoyed the sausages in the early 70s. Think they were probably steamed rather than grilled. I did actually like the peeled plum tomatoes and when the rest of the table were rejecting them, someone noticed I was quite happily piling my plate with them; so they started collecting from other tables ...

Re: David Newsome
Having had our interview with Mr Seaman, who seemed very ancient and old fashioned, my twin and I started CH in Sept 1970 and found CH had a new head. David Newsome wanted to get to know pupils, he came and read ghost stories to the 2nd formers and invited boys for a 'family' tea. This happened, for...

Re: Opinions on the recent ‘Final Band Parade’ Videos
Made me smile. Wish we had the opportunity to do this just once, for a final parade 47 years ago! Well done the guitarist, loved his Sussex by the Sea. As for a strong e-mail to the head, sure you can't find something else worse to complain about in the world? If you do write to him, just sign it &q...

Re: Another St Matthews Day photo 1972 ?
I think this might have been the whole school visit to London for the Tercentenary of the Royal Mathematicsl School. I remember a whole train hired for the school and the service in Westminster Abbey and packed lunch in the Royal Festival Hall. In the assembly when Headmaster Mr Newsome gave out the...
