Re: Desperate. Possible place in the UF...?
Thanks Mrs.C. Will try that. CH's response was to apply for sixth form but we are up against it: Molly collapsed with stomach pains through stress after a protracted session of group abuse at the weekend and her school is failing as usual to handle the troublemakers. She'll see the GP when she comes...

Re: Desperate. Possible place in the UF...?
I just thought that not needing a bed in dorm would make it a no-brainer.

Re: Desperate. Possible place in the UF...?
Nicky Rordan just mailed and said no. "All of our Bursary Assisted Place for 2011 have been allocated..." for the UF and they don't accept entrants into the GE as they are far on with their GCSE studies. I know just how far which is why I turned to the only school I could trust in this hor...

Desperate. Possible place in the UF...?
Can this happen? I've just read the heart-breaking accounts of admission trauma for second form by their parents and I'm not holding my breath. My dd is in the UF at her current boarding school and is miserable to the point of affecting her health so I have to act accordingly. I'm obviously deeply s...

Re: Is this fair?
My DD ( not at CH) is being charged £750 for a trip to France to do white water rafting etc during school time, saying that it is part of their curriculum. She's 12, not a strong swimmer and is keen not to go even if I accepted the "curriculum" rubbish and had the money, which I don't. Sh...

Re: Is this fair?
I have read these posts with horror and I am quite shaken. My mother threatened to stop paying my fees on the Grecians in a family arguement and I was told that CH would keep me regardless. I don't think it was tested but it made me feel safe and secure - and I went on to get 7 'A' levels and 2 degr...

Re: French teacher
I liked Mr Farrar. He was friendly, offered opportunities but took no prisoners if people misbehaved. Fair enough.
I used to sit between him and the Russian assistant translating conversations from French through to Russian and back during my A level year. Fantastic.

Re: End of Lent Term - another Post Mortem
I've just read through this post again and I have to agree with so much said, but especially with Huggermugger - my heart goes out to you. I don't think there's been enough said to support the worries of parents in your position. I would, as an OB, say that all of the concerns, except bullying, were...

Re: Returning to the UK
My chap's sis is married to a lovely Australian and travels on an Aus passport - she gets grilled everytime she comes *home* to visit from HK, despite her family living here. I find it astonishing and frankly embarassing that she gets grief every time she tries to enter UK, and more astonishing cons...

Re: Charitable status of independent schools
I think we're now straying into 2 separate issues: academic benefit and emotional benefit, a distinction that has led those outside CH to brand the school as being that for "Damaged Children". The generalisation that children are damaged by virtue of being poor or parents being divorced is...

Re: Charitable status of independent schools
Mmm. I can vouch for creative accounting going on when I was at CH both with accounts themselves and property ownership, not with my parents tho! I don't suppose CH searches the Land Registry, does it? Now that most of it is computerised, it would seem rather easy to check. How awful for the poor la...

Re: Charitable status of independent schools
Mmm. We're the recipient of one of these means-tested bursaries - my daughter is at a well-known school in Berkshire, where the fees are over £8k a term. (This figure is normal, incidentally.) The bursary level is 50% of the fees which still leaves a nasty sizeable chunk to be paid by friends, fami...

Re: Entrance to CH - Picture
Kerren, Not sure if you can see from the avatar pic, but I have an original watercolour of that entrance. I would be happy to see what it takes to get a decent scan for you and make it freely available to everyone here if you like it. I object to what has happened in every sense, including this guy ...

I am sure that one of the people RDTS pulled in for questioning has a copy. I will ask them.
