What happened when the girls arrived?

How did the transition from CH being an all boys school to being mixed go? I presume the same number of boys applied as in previous years, so a far greater proportion must have been turned down in the first year. Why is the intake not 50/50? I believe the proportion is roughly two thirds boys. Is it...

Re: Housey! The 'magazine'

I don't know if this is the right forum to talk about Housey! but please move if it's in the wrong place... I got a copy of it the other day - is there really any need for this publication now? With the advent of the 'Old Blue' magazine - what does Housey! do that the 'Old Blue' won't... I know thi...

I have only just noticed the term 'Housie' being used in this way. Is it just a generic term for time spent at CH or has it some other meaning?

Question for the ladies.........

If you receive a letter from someone who doesn't know your marital status, how should it be started - Dear Miss, Ms....? Surely it would be wrong to start it with Mrs. Which would cause the least offence?

I did a search on Longmate but it didn't come up with much. I searched Amazon and it came up with 'How we lived then'. This is only £14 so I can't see it being the 600 page book you describe.
Also, does anyone have any information on 'The Christ's Hospital Book' from 1953 as mentioned above?

Kiff iis tea served, naturally, in a kiff bowl! Happy christmas! Most of the brew room used to be smeared with flab. Lovel...

Do you mean 'The Old Blue' or 'The Blue'? To receive 'The Old Blue', you'll have to be a member of the C.H. Association. I quote from the C.H.A. site : CHA Membership "Several people have asked, What constitutes a member of the CH Association? Life membership is automatic and free of charge. T...

Anyone care to enlighten me about 'The Blue' ? What's in it, how often is it published etc etc...? Many thanks :) The Blue is the School magazine and has been published 3 times a year since the 1800s. It purports to be an official history of events at the School and has also traditionally had an Ol...
