Re: Quick questions and (maybe) answers Hertford Memories th
Yes, pictures on the walls! It looked really homely compared with my memories.... I also thought the girls looked pretty relaxed, smiling and chatting with one another. No silent, tense, white faces.... But DID notice the good posture. Tight and trim under the macs. I kinda fancy a mac like that for...

Re Post Offices....my late father felt much the same way about pubs. I had dire warnings when I left home in Germany for the student lifestyle in UK I was pretty terrified when as a new undergraduate I ventured into my first Black Horse/Red Lion/Spotted Dog/Whatever in Sheffield - expecting a den of...

Hi Going back to Dawn French.... It should be remembered that Dawn was a "Forces Brat"!!! I left Hertford at 14 and went to a large co-ed BFES school in Germany, on a barracks, with breaktimes often enhanced by views of fit young squaddies drilling, playing sports, or just topping up their...

Re rats They canter down the main (only) street of our village in broad daylight sometimes, a visit from the Pied Piper may be needed.... But voles evidently are very numerous, Great Britain's vole population exceeds its human tally We have one most days laid on our doorstep from Dillan the huntress...

Re: Cabinet of Curiosities
Hi Labradors are kind, and boisterous, so no, in fact I think not doglike in any way. Not cute or fluffy. Something imposing with rather mean seaching eyes, that could turn at any moment... I am put in mind more of a primitive bovine, perhaps a water buffalo or wildebeest, snorting, pawing the groun...

Hi
Well I'm only a few pages in, and it is a publication of great beauty.
But the misplaced apostrophes I encountered very early on did disturb me......
So who was in charge of proof-reading???

Hi Alex So sorry to read of the passing of dear kind Jean. As you say, we will all have our own memories, and I distinctly remember a few Long Sat days out with Siobhan, Jean, and an odd time "Uncle John" as well....they very kindly took pity on me, with parents and sisters far away overse...

Re: The "New" Old Blue
Which makes it all the more exciting doesn't it, how far Jackie's Boxer pupils have come in their herding training? YouTube footage can also be found of Pip, a quite remarkable herding Boxer from the US, and it was Pip's owner Reagan who visited us in the summer to see our UK herding Boxers. She was...

Re: The "New" Old Blue
Hi How funny that the remark about "alternative sheep dog training" has been picked up on! As we have no sheep of our own, and a breed of dog whose working ancestors have slipped off the back end of the pedigree, I remain perforce a "hobby herder" - but have a lot of fun doing he...
