Re: House structure

From previous comments made, I think I was a year or two ahead of BishBashBosh, also in Thornton B / A in the late 80s/early 90s. When I joined, the older boys in Th B, and all of them in Th A, had transferred from Barnes A, where they had been in the care of R Martin, previously mentioned in despat...

Re: The hearing

Many thanks for feeding us the facts, Richard. Very much appreciated. It'd be interesting to know what Husband has told his own immediate family up until this point. Has he always assured them of his complete innocence and do they now consider him to have been wrongfully imprisoned? Will they there...

Re: Today's the day

You know, I hope the media go to town with this story; CH can't have been unique in tolerating this kind of thing back in the good old days, and I'm sure there are many stories from other schools that probably need to be told.

Posted this here rather than pollute the thread with the victim's words in it. marty wrote: ↑ Mon Jul 09, 2018 10:51 am We had our 20 year reunion in June 2016 in central London. Re: A post on behalf of one of the Dobbie/Husband victims

I think that my more direct awareness - due to being male - of what Dobbie was up to meant that I was initially more angry about Dobbie than about Husband. Reading this has changed my perspective about the whole affair. No more words other than to wish the victim the best in rebuilding her life from...

I think it might be a good idea to stop beating up on Tim Askew; it did strike me at the time that he was somewhat less institutionalised than many of his contemporaries, and he may have some useful points to make.

Re: Should the forum be behind a registration wall?

Reading some of the above posts, I still find it hard to believe that during my 5 and a half years at CH, I never came across child abuse by teachers. I'm not saying it didn't happen. After my later career and coming into contact with one or two people who had those sort of traits, then looking bac...

Re: Should the forum be behind a registration wall?

Not sure how this works in the education sector, but it's years since I've seen or sent a reference that said anything other than "Mr X worked here between date Y and date Z". HR departments tend to enforce this policy out of a fear of being on the wrong end of a civil action. In fact, at most place...

Re: Should the forum be behind a registration wall?

As it happens, I had forgotten about him.

This was roughly contemporaneous with the cases that have recently been before the courts, right?

Re: Should the forum be behind a registration wall?

The French teacher is Rowley: http://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/15240613.Former_teacher_at_prestigious_private_school__inappropriately_touched__pupil/, who I always thought was particularly evil when I was ah CH. He seems to have dodged a bullet compared to the others though; from my recollection he ...

Re: Husband & Dobbie - VERDICTS

Hopefully the media will now correctly describe Dobbie as Chaplain to properly identify the magnitude of the abuse of trust that he committed. Again, the press reports have all repeated this line, which I think comes from the Press Association account of "Day 1". She reported him to the school’s ch...

Re: The trial of James Andrew Husband and Gary Dobbie

I didn't know Burr but he kept turning up like a bad smell after he was moved on, not least with his narrow boat holidays on the Norfolk Broads with Webb unchaperoned of course. I think Webb was from before my time, but I do remember Burr. This is the incredible part, the masters in charge of these...

Re: The trial of James Andrew Husband and Gary Dobbie

There’s a point of proceedure I’m unsure about though.

In a joined case, if defendant #1 has already concluded their defence, and defendant #2 proceeds to sell #1 down the river, does #1 have right of reply? Or is there a real advantage to batting second?

Re: The trial of James Andrew Husband and Gary Dobbie

I imagine we haven’t heard the last about JAH though.

The cases will have been joined for a reason, and based on what the press have told us about dates it’s unlikely to be a common complainant, leading me to suspect that the nexus must be this “beard rash” business.
