Re: Dobbie sentencing hearing

https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/christs-hospital-school-chaplain-jailed-16420693 "...when he confided in a fellow teacher at the school he was told to "get over it and move on"." That part of the report really stood out for me too. And, like Gingerbeard17, I ...

Re: RIP James Herbertson

He was on my year and I knew him a little, we spent an afternoon in Arundel during a holiday once. To have another from our cohort dying by suicide is just awful. I've been thinking of him every day since I heard the news of his death.

Re: Dates of birth of convicted abusers

I wonder if the school stipulated in its own rules anything about pupil/teacher relationships at any point from living memory onwards? And whether that changed when it became co-ed? Of course, whether it's law or not, a person's own ethical compass 'ought' to come into play. My husband teaches at un...

Re: Dates of birth of convicted abusers

So were Dobbie and Husband actually connected together as part of the case? I'm not trying to belittle the offences nor the damage done to the victims in any way. Being half a world away makes it difficult to understand what's fact and what's conjecture. Thanks, Max richardb has the legal know-how ...

Re: Dates of birth of convicted abusers

I hope they survive prison. I also hope that eventually they come to some sort of realisation of the trauma they have caused their victims, and the hurt they have caused the wider relationships around the victims, their own families and friends. That work is painful and difficult and time-consuming...

Re: Trial of Gary William Dobbie

How is a convicted offender determined to show genuine remorse? He pled not guilty and sought character witnesses for himself. In my mind not the actions of a person who acknowledges a transgression. And at what point does the question of remorse get looked at - at sentencing or at parole? At this ...

Re: Trial of Gary William Dobbie

Given the length of his offending, would that determine some element of dangerousness? This sounds massively assumptive on my part but he doesn't come across as an opportunist paedophile, so the long-term predatory nature of his actions must be an indication that it could happen again? Regarding the...

Re: Trial of Gary William Dobbie

Gunning was assistant housemaster in Mid A until about 87? Then Frank McKenna took over as assistant. Mike "Taffy" Williams was housemaster at least all the time I was in Mid A (85-89) and probably a year or so before that. Dr Chapman (from South Africa) took over, but not sure for how lo...

Re: Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse - Peter Ball - publication date

I shall be very interested to read this. There are 27 pages on his schedule of convictions and allegations of misconduct against boys and young men.

And I wait to see the connections between him and CH.

Re: Trial of Gary William Dobbie

Dobbie was in Whites during the 80s. Gunning was housemaster of Mid A mid?-late 80s. By 1990 it was Chapman who lived out of house with his family in West Gun Copse. It was always problematic in my mind having houseparents not in situ. I had cause to report something to Chapman in 1990 and he had no...
