Re: Dr Ken Little

Dazed

This makes very sad reading and hints at an institution seemingly unaware of the scale of mental distress some (too many) children were struggling to cope with in some of the boarding houses.

Re: Letter to the Head Master

A possible press threat could work well in our favour. The school obviously know now what a slippery tight rope they are treading. I think it entirely possible there could be some very uncomfortable press analysis once all the sentences are in. Indeed some of you may have seen a twitter proposition...

Re: Did monitors have any real use?

Historically, pre 1965 or so, monitors and more especially the house captain, had significant influence over the lives of junior boys. They effectively ran the house on behalf of the housemaster, who for much of the time would steer the ship with just an occasional touch on the tiller. Indeed, he ha...

Re: Who Knew What?

Segueing back to DazedndConfused's rereading of some earlier copies of The Blue: The Blue does make interesting reading. I thought I would flick through the most recent copy of online; a fabulously glossy and beautifully designed document. Congratulations to the graphic design team. Reading the outg...

Re: Christ's Hospital / The Church of England / Child Abuse

It may reward the curious to correlate mysterious staff departures with an absence of suitably appreciative valedictory notices in The Blue, etc. Indeed a careful reading of the known cases might hint at what was left unsaid.

Re: Christ's Hospital / The Church of England / Child Abuse

I have contacted LHA with some of the press reports on the Kimbolton cases. Readers can do their own research but in view of the request for appropriate sensitivity towards all visitors to this site, I judge some of the reporting to be frankly too salacious for general posting.

Re: Christ's Hospital / The Church of England / Child Abuse

Interesting. Just a coincidence maybe but mention of Kimbolton, a school with which I am familiar (not least because my brother attended and was advised to leave when he tried to report a predatory housemaster) prompts me to mention another link besides Dobbie. It has been going through similarly to...

Re: What was the attraction?

The school master of the single sex independent school (most public schools up until at least the 70s) has become a caricature (perfectly captured by Rowan Atkinson in The Secret Policeman's Ball and Fatal Beating); Public School, single sex Oxbridge college and then back into another single sex ins...

Re: Today's the day

Howard I completely agree with your rallying cry for support for the School and it’s Headmaster and, in due course, it will come as he works to turn things around. At the same time you should acknowledge that in seeking catharsis and recognition of the scale of their pain, victims will need to vent ...

Re: Today's the day

It might be worth catching Burr victim 'Arthur ' and Headmaster, Simon Reid talking live on BBC Radio Sussex at the moment 9.00- 10.00am.

Re: A post on behalf of one of the Dobbie/Husband victims

There will be no one who can remain unmoved by the power of this statement and we are all humbled by its author's bravery. I feel embarrassed as an Old Blue that my old school could treat the complainant so contemptibly and that the Chaplaincy was so utterly corrupt and cowardly at the very moment t...
