Re: Trial of Gary William Dobbie

“Dobbie and other single male house masters would organise parties where champagne was served and the best-looking boys were picked to be waiters” First time I’ve heard reference to other house masters being involved in parties. I had the same thought as you. Who knows what’s yet to come in terms o...

Re: Trial of Gary William Dobbie

how do you write down that the accused and his/her counsel behaved and sounded more guilty that the snake before Eve? Hi David, If I’ve understood correctly: how do you put that down as a reason for your verdict? Well no jury should ever reach their verdict based on how “dodgy” the defendant looks ...

Re: Trial of Gary William Dobbie

Cheers John.

Having just pondered over it while cooking, feel free to delete those jury views I put up if you feel it shouldn't be discussed until after the trial - don't want to put my foot in it twice!

Re: Trial of Gary William Dobbie

I'm sorry Stephen, but on sound legal advice, I have deleted your post of yesterday concerning quotes from court proceedings, even though I appreciate it was from press coverage. IF a juror got access to this site and followed through subsequent posts and raised them in court, there could be seriou...

Brilliant. I remember that exceptional jaw. But I never knew there was a widespread term for it! Thanks for that. My Google image history is now full of lantern jaws. 8)

Re: Who Knew What?

Depends what you class as bullying. Dead arms, dead legs, leechels (hard stinging slap to a bare back), flicked towels or 'Rats tails' etc etc were par fir tbe course in tbe early 90s. Judging by Otter's earlierposts im quite sure i know who the housemaster was (MJG) and if he didnt like you, he wa...

Re: Who Knew What?

With a few notable exceptions who did say something, you were more likely to be told off for having your socks down than, for example, putting a younger kid in a headlock and steering them into a doorframe. I was bullied in my junior years but actually my memories of CH in general are good, as my s...

Re: How will CH cope with Brexit?

I welcome professionally qualified EU Nationals into Britain. Our Health Service would collapse without them. I spoke to many of them during my 3 recent hospital visits. They were hard working dedicated staff. HOWEVER..... Some immigrants just take the p1ss and come her from Eastern European countr...

Re: How will CH cope with Brexit?

Britain partly ordered this, by having a (very large, by virtue of its population) seat at the European Parliament, and a veto at the European Council. Britain constantly takes in fewer refugees (as a proportion of total population) than most other European countries. Considering it imposed itself ...

Re: How will CH cope with Brexit?

The UK is independent. Are you seriously suggesting that France, Germany etc. are not independent countries? If so, there's no point debating with you as it is as worthwhile as arguing with a flat-earther. Talking of "not having an argument to make", I'm yet to hear a single good argument in favour...

Re: Who Knew What?

Sorry for posting to an older thread, I haven't been on here much and I saw the name Ditcham and it has all come back like it was yesterday. I remember Mr Ditcham. Decent German teacher. Left suddenly circa 1998. I think his first name was John, but I might be mistaken. It was definitely something m...

Re: Ernest McCall- Maths teacher / housemaster Maine A

Was Robinson a woodwork/metalwork teacher who joined in the mid 80s? Yes, widely regarded as being thick as two short planks due to both the subject he taught and his northern origins. With hindsight, he was probably a pretty reasonable chap. Mrs Robinson (maiden name forgotten) was the Home Econom...

Re: Dobbie's departure

Hello. Long-time lurker, first-time poster. Dobbie was my housemaster for a time. I was not abused by him, was not aware of the abuse at the time, and have no knowledge of the identity of his victims. While I am a milion miles from being anything remotely like a victim, it is truly shocking and phys...
