Re: Relationships - Grecian / UF

Stopped? Yep, unless school policy has changed you both got your marching orders. As for allowed? Well, as said above, it's a grey area. Unless you're advocating a totalitarian regime, best option IMO is ensure there is open access to information and education on sexual health, consent, and sexuali...

Re: Relationships - Grecian / UF

Getting moved on doesn't stink up your record or stop you getting another job, but having an expulsion on your record lingers. It seems to work for you if you go into acting for example, so I'm guessing RADA doesn't mind, but if you're planning on going the Oxbridge route it'll be a worry. An adult...

Re: Relationships - Grecian / UF

Hmmm...i have to slightly disagree. I mean, in real terms there's not that much difference (if any) between moving someone on (for whatever reason) and an expulsion. Trying to integrate 200 odd girls in a school of 600 adolescent boys back in 1985 would have been a nightmare scenario in certain res...

Re: Relationships - Grecian / UF

Pupils were expelled while staff were either discretely moved on. Or there was a cover up. Hmmm...i have to slightly disagree. I mean, in real terms there's not that much difference (if any) between moving someone on (for whatever reason) and an expulsion. I have to disagree. It is one thing for a ...

Re: Relationships - Grecian / UF

The school had some curious double standards. Pupils were expelled while staff were either discretely moved on. Or there was a cover up. Hmmm...i have to slightly disagree. Re: Relationships - Grecian / UF

In my day, there were any number of Grecian / UF relationships - usually with the Grecian being male...actually, always being the male element. I have been told that the relationships were very intimate. My son tells me that he doesn't know of any going on at present. I am presuming that no safegua...

Ditto at age just 9 in 1952 and add to that the bast**ds spoke an unintelligible lingo. Worse, marching in to tea one night in the dark I got an sharp pain under my foot and was forbidden to fall out. I got it in words of one syllable from matron who was most displeased at a damaged blood soaked so...

Re: Boarding School Syndrome

I can definitely confirm that my first year at CH, starting January 1958 was to me, PURE HELL !! Ditto at age just 9 in 1952 and add to that the bast**ds spoke an unintelligible lingo. Worse, marching in to tea one night in the dark I got an sharp pain under my foot and was forbidden to fall out. I...

I'm no expert, but I've always understood that internet ads are tailored to the individual user based on 'cookies' showing one's surfing habits. So I might see an ad for 'casual leather boots at 60% off', displayed above as I type (showing that I'm a fashion-conscience pauper), while someone else m...

Re: Current/Former Staff who were at CH

"Christ's Hospital I despise and fear more than I despise Eton or fear Winchester. Eton and Winchester merely perpetuate privilege; Christ's Hospital creates it." Not the first time I’ve heard that. It’s rather chilling... Our in-house loony will be along shortly to tell you why you’ve misunderquot...

Re: Current/Former Staff who were at CH

Jack Morpurgo's obituary from the Telegraph is here: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/books/1370520/Professor-Jack-Morpurgo.html I like this bit: A proud "Old Blue", Morpurgo always felt that he owed the school a great debt for the excellent start he had been given in life. He liked to recall an...

Re: Did anyone know?

I certainly wouldn't hold up India, Kenya or Uganda as examples of best practice Just some of the countries that prosecute teachers who burst pupil's eardrums. I meant no offense to enlightened corporal punishment enthusiasts and apologists. It's not about being an enthusiast or apologist. It's abo...

Re: Did anyone know?

Yes indeed, India, Kenya, and Uganda do show great respect to children. I don't think anyone, including Mr Durrant himself, is suggesting that slapping / striking a pupil is acceptable in any way. Durrant said that the assault incident was either miscalculated or accidental (https://www.chforum.inf...
