Re: Letter to Head Master

Robert,

You have my utmost respect for the way you have conducted, and continue to conduct, yourself both on your own behalf and in support of others.

I take my metaphorical hat off to you.

Re: Roger Martin - trial

Maybe I am on my own here but I don't like the tag team baiting Vilified has been subject to at all. He has answered some rigorous questions fully and expressed contrition. It should stop there. People rightly want transparency regarding the awful abuse that has blighted CH and to know why it was al...

Re: When did masters become teachers?

I notice a number of people on this forum use the word “masters” to describe teachers in general, not just house staff. I attended school in the 90s and this term was never, ever used (except in compound words like headmaster, housemaster and bandmaster). When did the phase-out of “master” occur to...

Re: Roger Martin - trial

Like others I find this one hard to comprehend. Roger Martin taught me when I was a junior and he was one of my favourite teachers so it comes as a shock. I always regarded him as one of the good guys. That said exploitation of a vulnerable child when in a position of trust is beyond contempt and I ...

As they say in football parlance doubtless it will 'all go quiet over there' now he has gone.

Re: 1968 and all that

That 'raft of expulsions' was in Newsom's time, wasn't it? I was there for one term with him. It all seems to have fallen apart just after I left! Yes Clarrie finished in the summer of 1970. The expulsions were definitely in Newsome's time if we are thinking of the same ones! I have a very vague me...

Re: Here's a hypothetical

I'm sure I've mentioned previously on here that Ron Lorimer used to invite us into his study to watch Match of The Day and often offer us a beer to go with it.

No ulterior motives whatsoever and a little comfort I and others were grateful to receive in those pre Grecians Club days.

Re: Sheila and Peter Higgins - character references for Gary Dobbie

The disgusting female Chaplain that ignored that poor girl is even worse. Is it now established who this is? She was the only teacher/staff member I straight up hated, of all my 3 schools. You know how you remember having certain teachers you really disliked, you thought you "hated" them, but when ...

Re: Sheila and Peter Higgins - character references for Gary Dobbie

So.my word as a former pupil and a teacher for 27 years at CH following a headship is worth nothing to you? What is this concrete evidence you are seeking? See my previous post for examples of possible concrete evidence. The fact that Dobbie et al got away with so much for so many years, without be...

Re: Dobbie sentencing hearing

In the light of comparable crimes such as the football coach this sentence does seem derisory to me. I assume no account has been taken of the position of trust a teacher / chaplain holds given that he will serve only 6 years effectively. My understanding is that paedophiles remain a danger well int...

Re: RIP Michael Scuffil

I am very sad to read this. Michael had an excellent memory and recall and could vividly transport us back 50 years or more. His contributions to this forum as a social history of CH are invaluable as well as so much more on other subjects. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. RIP Micha...

John Saunders

I have seen the latest CHOBA newsletter and noticed that John Saunders is included amongst those 'no longer with us.'

John posted on here intermittently over the years on a variety of subjects.

RIP and condolences to his family and friends should any happen to see this.
