Re: What is the impact of a CH education?

We always had to put the word Religious first, we were taught that was the most important of the three words.

Re: CH Letter re support for abuse survivors

There are other posts indicating these types of incident - where apparently there were not sudden departures. E.g. here is a post from a girl who talks about 'an inappropriate' relationship that she had with a teacher (this post was in 2011): 'In my last couple of years, I had an inappropriate rela...

Re: What is the impact of a CH education?

As for timing, I guess the press has died down and was massively less for Martin's trial, plus they may have hoped some people were unaware. I wonder how many OBs aren't even aware of any of these cases. While obviously a very serious and important set of events, it's not front-page news on papers,...

Re: What is the impact of a CH education?

Hugo Middlemas is Director of Development. The link to the survey is linked to the email, as it now as I’ve completed it, so there’s no point forwarding it to you.
I was not impressed with the questions, they didn’t give enough chances to explain answers, options were too cut and dried.

What is the impact of a CH education?

Has anyone else had this survey in an email from Hugo Middlemas today? I haven’t looked at the survey yet but it strikes me as very bad timing. I would have thought that they would have left any such surveys in abeyance for the moment. As I only had the one chance at Secondary School education, like...

Re: The moon landing at CH

Term dates changed, but I’m not sure when. My brother’s birthday is 26 July but wasn’t always home for it. He was at CH from about 1953 to 61 or 2. I can’t remember which day of the week was always end of term, but Peter would be home if his birthday was the right day of the week that year! My Mothe...

Re: The moon landing at CH

I think the landing was early evening, which wouldn't have been a problem, but I can't remember how much more we saw. I found a timeline for Apollo 11, it shows it touched down at 21.18 BST, and the capsule opened at about 03.40 next morning. Touchdown was a bit earlier than I remembered, I must ha...

Re: The moon landing at CH

I remember the landing as quite late in the evening and then exiting the capsule in the early hours of the morning. I had just graduated, it was a Sunday night, the next day I was going to Birmingham for my VSO training. I went to bed after the landing, but my father woke me to see One small step .....

Re: Letter to Head Master

Hayden does not appear in the Blue Book '72 - 73. Burr no longer appears in it for '75 - 76. It is believed that he was removed with a god reference for striking a boy. The Rev Atkinson is in it for '72 - '73 along with Rev Robson as senior Chaplain. They are both still there in '78 - '79.'s. I bel...

Re: Letter to Head Master

It seems to me you are doing a great job Rob. I’m not surprised you break down at times, a trite comment would be to say that breaking down will help you. It may, or it may not, but you know that you are now helping other victims. The more such abuse can be brought into the open now, the more youngs...

Re: Is private education overrated?

I know our situation was not typical but there are a lot of families in our position working overseas. Independent boarding schools are still important for people like us. I agree with that - particularly if local provision is poor. In the case of some children, it's expensive for the taxpayer thou...

Re: Is private education overrated?

My sons went to independent boarding schools from the age of 8, poor little mites. This was because my husband worked for the British Council and was globally transferable which meant that we could be moved at any time with very short notice. Many of the places we could have been sent did not have E...
