Re: Roger Martin - trial
Here are a pair of ear perforation contextual examples, from India: https://youtu.be/1D58WolILLk https://youtu.be/ROZY8xJhjNY But, in years gone by, I agree, examples of masters impulsively lashing out at boys were not uncommon - there is a thread on the topic here. E.g. someone had a tooth knocked ...

Re: Roger Martin - trial
Did the question of lack of control crop up at any other times in your career beyond the rugby match incident? I might even go so far to say that this particular group had an increased propensity for regrettable action - I seem to have spent half my working life being reminded by those grammar scho...

Re: Roger Martin - trial
i'd think it was standard practice then and I'd have thought even up until the present time, and not just in the teaching profession, for an employer who was happy to see someone go to gloss over a person's defects and seek out positive reasons for recommending them. Equally, I personally had two d...

Re: Roger Martin - trial
What did you say was your reason for leaving Christ's Hospital? I think I mentioned the stress of living in a boarding house in close 24/7 proximity to the boys, the desire for more privacy, the wish to teach at a higher level, and of course the appeal of the outdoors, the proximity of the Welsh mo...

Re: Roger Martin - trial
Of course not! but you say: However, at the time, such things were part of the regular way of life at most schools, and corporal punishment had a long way to run... ...so I thought that you might have mentioned the actual circumstances. What did you say was your reason for leaving Christ's Hospital?

Re: Roger Martin - trial
When you write : 'I found this site via a search for information about the accusations against the unfortunate Roger Martin.' and 'With regard to my own trial on various charges of assault and sexual assault, this (Thank, God!!) was not one regarding allegations of some hideous ‘historical’ offences...

Re: Roger Martin - trial
1. I came to CH from teaching in a grammar school and as a grammar school boy myself. Thank you for posting. Why did you decide to move from grammar school teaching to teaching at Christ's Hospital? Why did you not return to grammar school teaching following your departure from Christ's Hospital?

I would be interested to know what the 'sudden departure count' is. Here are links to some departures that have not led to convictions: https://www.chforum.info/php/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=317&p=57144&#p57144 https://www.chforum.info/php/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=5140&p=140943&#p1409...

Re: Roger Martin - trial
It is interesting that there is so much concern over an estimate of the number of children abused at the school. There are 11 convictions (currently). Did these abusers abuse one person each? There is evidence here that Husband had several liaison, boys from Barnes B complained to Newsome about Roge...

Re: Roger Martin - trial
That link is indeed an estimated 5,000 abused pupils. David was giving an estimate to understand how many pupils could have been abused. Thank you for providing the text. The current count is 11 convictions. How many years were these abusers at their 'work'? (and returning to the Norfolk Broads (htt...

An estimated 5,000 pupils have been abused at Christ's Hospital: https://www.chforum.info/php/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=5209&p=142368&#p142368 It looks like the great educational benefits spoken of in "The Charge" were not received by TMF ... or the moderator who thanked him for hi...
