Re: Bad things you didnt get caught doing (Sausage in Communion)

Ah, yes, Field Day. One in a brickfield somewhere with all the potatoes used up as missiles. Field day stew, everyone bring a can of something and chuck it in (opened before you ask). Pumping a primus to make it go - a thin fountain of fuel shot out an duop and soaked all the bread. Escaped to the ...

Re: Housey Slang.....

Sillett did the same in LHB, they were built in the summer of 83 just in time for my LE and were basically a zig zag of vertical wooden panels sat on the big tables so if viewed from above they would have looked like a square sin wave. Each LE had a recess with 2 shelves and a flat vertical panel t...

There is some evidence that one of the reasons British officers in WWII treated POW camps as a challenge, rather than prisons, was their experience of public schools

Re: UNiversity of Wales, Bangor

As far as I know, I was the first OB to attend Bangor 61-65. Certainly when I showed up for my interview in uniform it created quite a stir. I loved it: in large part because with two teachers colleges and a nursing school, there were a lot of women. Coming from seven years at CH it was an eye-opene...

I have a feeling he was attached to 'Special Services' for a time, possibly immediately after the war or at the end of the war. In a conversation with him, many years after I left, he talked about working behind enemy lines in Burma. He never explicitly said which branch of the service he was in, b...

Re: Was CH Horsham Designed to Be Gay?

While we're on the subject of rugby: is there anyone else who was at CH for 8 years and never managed to get even into the 5th XV? Rugby was hell on earth, especially on a cold. wet Saturday afternoon. Curiously, though, I thought 7-a-sides was quite fun. But I suppose it wasn't "character bui...

Re: Paul Newman RIP

Round here he will be mainly remembered for his philanthropic work. Just a few miles from here is the first of many Hole in the Wall camps for terminally ill children which was one of his first major contributions. Since then his Newman's Own food line has donated over $200 million to various charit...

Re: Where NOT to stay and where NOT to drink

Received this via Facebook today: Guess I won't be drinking Starbucks anymore!! ! Recently Marines in Iraq wrote to Starbucks because they wanted to let them know how much they liked their coffees and to request that they send some of it to the troops there. Starbucks replied, telling the Marines t...
