[quote="Fjgrogan"]At risk of stirring up controversy ...
Heaven forbid! I'm sure many people have read this before, but it's worth having another look at this interview conducted before he took over to see where the Head 'is coming from'.

Re: Any Questions?
Those of my era were lucky: majority (or all) of the fees at CH paid for us; County Council grants to go to College/University. The whole world has changed! I would imagine that the demands of Health and Safety, Ofsted and Social Services have increased the costs of running the school far and above ...

Re: Any Questions?
Which aspects of 'then' seem appealing Hunturk? In the 60's: Sundays: long lie-in (till 0800) , 2 Chapel Services + an hour's compulsory Letter-Writing. "House Out of Bounds" all afternoon, so the younger ones had to find other things to do. Mind you, we were allowed to head off to the riv...

"Interesting that the presentation of male and female names is the same whereas it is a normal convention (I think) to put ladies' first names before their surnames?"
Wow! I've never heard of that convention! As for the list of attendees being kept up to date. Sadly, it isn't.

Re: Even further sad news
I remember quite enjoying his lessons and doing quite well. The following year I was taught by some new chap - I'd then got to the stage where I considered new staff to be several rungs of the ladder below me and my peers. The initials JFECG spring to mind. He gave me a very poor mark for a thirteen...

Re: 40 Years on 1971/72
Even more depressing when you add some names that perhaps fall just outside this 'cohort': David Tweed, Nick Coker, Nigel Farrell, Nick Adderley ... .
One of the reasons that I went back last year. It seemed to be pushing my luck a bit to assume that I would be around for the 50th.

Re: use of Christian names
I remember David Newsome calling his School Monitors etc. (and others probably) by their Christian names when he first arrived.

Re: Nigel Farrell
Apologies. I could have sworn that he was in Mid.B. Thanks for the correction.

Nigel Farrell
Has anyone else noticed that the TV producer/presenter Nigel Farrell (Mid.B late 60's/?early 70's) has died of pancreatic cancer? He was a nice bloke. Contemporary of mine.

I think Harry's Alley was definiteky named after Harry Spurrier, but I thought he lived in the house on the right as you headed up the road. It was unusual as he was Housemaster of Mid.B at the time, but didn't live in the House itself. I remember going to watch the early rounds of the 1966 World Cu...
