I learned to set type and we did lots of programmes etc.
Failed at woodwork but enjoyed printing.

Re: Ben Breakwell convicted of abuse
I agree with the view that the families are totally innocent and also victims in a different way. I do remember that one of Husband's relatives went on the Old Blues Facebook group after Husband's conviction to proclaim Husband's innocence and to attempt to undermine the victims' credibility. I wou...

I have a lot of respect for the active soldiers and Hereford College even more so. Supply clerks in the War Office - very different matter. I In the Falkland's conflict one company group of RM from 45 Cdo was ashore, yomping across the islands yet never engaged the enemy; were they any less heroic ...

Re: Brexit
If I've got my geography right, Valencia is a fairly big city and has a busy port, so it should be saved some of the distribution problems that other places have. The thing I missed most about Oz when I was back in the UK was fruit that tasted like fruit. I don't have that problem in France. You ar...

Re: March 1990
Rae was well past his sell by date by 1990, renowned for nodding off whilst teaching. As was Tom Keeley, many years earlier. I have always wondered about that ability. I had a boss who did exactly the same, nodded off in board meetings, presentations, and worst of all, at traffic lights. More than ...

Re: What Doesn't Happen At CH These Days?
Yes, getting on for two centuries after Darwin and then Dawkins in recent times, how does faith religion hang on in there for the modern age? We've covered some of this on other threads about school chaplains. I used to enjoy bellowing out the old hymns with their wonderful chord changes but I didn...

Re: March 1990
Taken from Poulton's remarks on Rae during the incident. "From abroad, I wanted to fly back." "If you come back" he (Rae) said on the phone, "you will seem to indicate no trust in me and the team, and I will resign." It gives an indication of how they all stuck together...

Re: 1950s HANDHELD CALCULATOR
I was a long time advocate of a slide rule! Still have mine. For a long time I opposed the use of calculators in schools as GIGO. If you have no idea of the answer, how do you know if the calculator is correct? I taught my children long division as their primary school teacher in Amsterdam advocate...

March 1990
Reading the farewell notes for R Rae, in the Summer 1990 Blue, RCP (trying to work out who he may have been), writes that Rae was Acting Head in March 1990 at a very dark hour in the School's history.

Who would you Shop?
In conversations with my son, we got on to the subject of child abuse and how to reduce these incidents. I mentioned that growing up, I had not come across such abuse and put it down to parental education, and in some circumstances, school education. I suggested that better education of children wou...

Did you stick out like a gringo sore thumb...? First trip to Rio a bloke was coming up behind me "with evil intent". I'd been watching him in shop windows so at "the" moment a quick hard kick in the testes and situation avoided. In 20 years that was the first of four attempts th...
