Re: Brexit

Judging from the experience of my grandson, couldn’t agree more. Seems to me they don’t even want their own citizens. Makes you wonder why the refugees don’t just stay in Europe. Must be the language. The majority do. In general, the majority of refugees (I think it's about 70%) end up in neighbour...

Re: Brexit

I don’t think anyone will be surprised that we didn’t get a Pakistani passport for the son born there! At that time, 1975, we had to provide our marriage certificate to get him registered as British. He would not have been British had he been illegitimate, I cannot believe that is still the case. I...

Re: Sausages!

And, if they were, why did we get beef, rather than pork? I think the answer to any "why" when it came to the food at CH was (and probably still is) because they were cheaper. I remember that there was a group of us who had the catering budget broken down for us (can't remember why) and t...

Re: Brexit

Do passports in the UK and Europe ( sad to have to write that ) actually get stamped anymore, as in the old fashioned way? Because I have had my passport taken from me at a control, looked at under some form of special lamp stamped, but when returned there was nothing to see. Is the stamp only able...

Re: Brexit

If you live in the EU and you want to use your UK passport to travel in/out of the EU, you should also produce your residence permit. Otherwise the rule is indeed for them to stamp your UK passport, as UK citizens are now only allowed in the EU/Schengen for maximum 90 days in any 180-day period . S...

Re: Brexit

I’m in two minds whether to renew the UK one when the time comes. I would strongly recommend you renew your UK one, even though it's likely to take a while. If you're overseas and something happens that you need consular-level help with, a valid passport (or a record of you having one if it gets lo...

Re: Brexit

I'm told that Australian border officials are extremely unpleasant, even to their own . I knew a dual-national (UK/Aus) who came to work in Britain and got grilled on her return 'cos she had no non-Australian entry/exit stamps in her Australian passport. Haven't had any passport issues since they i...

Re: teaching relevance in later life

At the end of the week she claimed that she had learned more French in five days than in the years up to GCSE. That sounds about right. I moved to France towards the end of the first big pandemic lockdown, was in quarantine for a couple of weeks and for the next six months my only French language i...

Re: teaching relevance in later life

Career advice at housey was frankly appalling Takes me back to a careers session on my GE ... I remember having careers advice session(s) during deps, and the advisor was one of the chemistry teachers. Can't remember his name, but think he was married to one of the Biology teachers(?). Anyway, as a...

Re: teaching relevance in later life

In retrospect how did CH teaching help you in later life? The A levels in Chemistry, Biology, and Maths I took were necessary to get into uni to do a BSc, which was a requirement for doing a PhD, which in turn is part of the core criteria for working as a research scientist, a position I currently ...

Re: Girlie Magazines, Pin Ups and Other Such Things

They were called bog mags back in my day (late 70s). Have not heard that phrase used in decades! There was often an explicit magazine tear-out to be found stuck onto the inside of the same downstairs toilet door in Pe B. ... I never knew who was responsible for that ... A couple of names come...

Re: Opinions on the recent ‘Final Band Parade’ Videos

I'm more interested in knowing why there was a guitar player, as for the rest, just looks like a fairly restrained version of muck up day (more of an Australian thing than UK) with kids goofing around and having a bit of a laugh. No harm, no foul, just a bit of fun. This wouldn't have happened at Be...

Re: Puke Fight!

But, for example, was it worse on your UF than what you saw on your GE and Deps...? Was it worse in the years before you joined Peele A, from the stories you heard...? Yes to both. For want of a better way to put it, the house calmed down a lot. I think that every year has a kid or two (ringleaders...
