Re: Absenteeism

At one time the school sergeant used to visit all classrooms to enquire if there were any absentees that day. Presumably this was some form of Government requirement to ensure that all pupils were properly attending their place of instruction. I cannot recall if this was done on a daily basis and w...

Re: Inter House trophies

Actually, in Ba B in the 40s cards were played quite a lot. Canasta, Besique, Racing Demon, Whist. I have forgotton how to play the first two. Yes, Poker came later ---- Much ! Table Tennis, on those long tables, became an entirely different game ---- Long Smashes !! Ba B in the 60's had lost Racin...

Re: BUCKLES

I thought that the original of this painting is owned by the school and is hung in one of the rooms at the end of the dining hall. Perhaps one of the forum members who lives on site could check.

On the other hand I might be totaly wrong (Don't know why I think the painting is there.)

Re: Teddy Edwards

I remember Teddy telling us how to remember the date of the Spanish Armada by the last two digits of 1588 resembling sails. One of my History memories from CH was that 1666 was the Great Fire of London - can't you see all those houses on fire in the sixes? Keep it up and I'll be able to take a GCSE...

This comment is illogical. A headmistress who runs a school that creates disaffected losers can never be described as a Great Headmistress.

Re: Parental Contribution

Until now I have stayed out of this debate as I am not a parent past, present or future of a child at CH, but I am an Old Blue. I have therefore followed the points with interest and have to reach the conclusion that there is a real and difficult issue going on in here for current parents. But one th...

I heard that they extracted most of the asbestos? "Most" ----- ? -- ONE fibre of Crocidolite (Blue) or Amosite (Brown) can develop little growths around the sharp ends, and SOME of these can develop into Mesethemiola, which is cancer of the lung lining --- inevitably fatal ! I'm sorry to ...

Kerren

If you do manage to scan the music for the leaving hymn I would like to have a copy, if possible.

Re: C.H. CAPE PHOTO WANTED

Apropos "Berets" ----- I seem to remember that, in the early 40s, there was a cabinet of "Museum" items in the upper floor of the block, to the left of Big School, as you face it. Names of buildings seem to have changed a lot in 70 years (Surprise surprise !) but that should ide...

Re: The Cost of War

It is remarkable how "belt tightening" goes out of the window and billions can magically be found when it comes to financing the vanity wars of politicians, bailing out the Euro or spurious "green" schemes that generate about enough electricity to power a single (low energy) lig...
