Re: Opinions on the recent ‘Final Band Parade’ Videos

Last band parade a week before the end of term seems more of a degrade? More of a concern is that they have abolished Band Parade on Tuesdays and Thursdays to free up valuable time for pupils. I was also surprised by both of these aspects. Since when has there not been marching into lunch every day...

Re: Opinions on the recent ‘Final Band Parade’ Videos

Personally I thought it looked good fun. The boy on the electric guitar was impressive. It was a one-off for the last band parade of the year. I admit I have never experienced or seen anything go this far on band parade but it made me smile, knowing that it is an exception and not the norm. Might no...

Re: Punishment system

Suspension Expulsion - interestingly enough I knew a boy who was "asked to leave", he (or his family) said no, he actually stayed at the school and did fine in the end. I think this was a good example of how the pastoral care at CH could make a positive change in the lives of especially t...

Punishment system

I remember an elaborate and well-defined hierarchical system of punishments. 30 years on, I wonder if any of this remains or if it has been overhauled or adjusted. Also I wonder how it worked prior to my time. To the best of my recollection (I may have got some details wrong), the system in the 90s ...

Re: How Much Kit Brought Down From Newgate Street Still Exists?

Hmmmm! Methinks there is a fundamental misunderstanding here. Rockfreak says: " I never knew that Kit was around in the days of Newgate Street ." This obviously assumes that the 'Kit' in the title refers to the late Kit Aitken former housemaster of ColA. This simply can't be true as Kit (...

Re: Puke Fight!

Maddren was a nasty piece of work and had anger management problems. Yes, he had a huge amount of rage stored up, which was unleashed without warning for tiny infractions. I don't know if he had anger management issues or he simply enjoyed doing it. I remember Maddren being a well-respected chemist...

Re: Puke Fight!

What on earth was a teacher (this Gladding creature) doing allowing it to happen? He should have been sacked and banned from ever having anything to do with kids; what a complete and utter tw@t. This is Tom Brown's schooldays stuff and utterly unacceptable. Gladding had absolutely outstanding apath...

Re: Puke Fight!

I remember a few fights between squits in the Peele B library/quiet room after lunch in the early to mid 90s. The fights were organised by the LE for entertainment, I don't think the 2nd formers were actually wanting to hit or fight anyone. The LE would make up stories of how someone had insulted so...

Re: Elizabeth Cairncross

I'm not a recruitment professional but surely Google, social media and news searches are standard nowadays? Google Cairncross and you get a lot of reports about the recent trials. There shouldn't be any fear of libel because an employer has no obligation to state the reasons why an applicant was uns...

Re: Elizabeth Cairncross

Thank you for these expansions, Anthony. Your motivation as a parent makes absolute sense. I find it extremely disappointing that apparently the only thing preventing someone from accessing a role like this is a criminal conviction. There are so many actions and inactions that are appalling, neglige...

Re: Mine is one of them!

Pretty sure Michael Caine isn't Jewish-what gave you that impression...? Indeed. Apparently an absolute invention. "Caine has his own ideas of whether there is actually “anybody there”. “I’d dearly love to think that there is somebody there,” he explains. “And I have a lot of back-up, because ...

Re: Christmas Greetings

We here we are on the 25th and my young son exclaimed this morning that now there are only 11 months left and he can't wait until Christmas!

Hope everyone has had a good new year so far.

Re: Elizabeth Cairncross

I am gutted that neither Poulten, Ciarcross or Sillet have had to answer for what happened at CH. Although I have forgiven them, along with my abusers. Yes, this is a scandal in itself. After the facts that emerged repeatedly across the numerous criminal trials, it is also unacceptable to me that S...

Re: Freaky in the FT

But Brexit is an act of faith more than anything else; there are true believers who simply don't care about the realities. The World will eventually learn to live with Covid but the realities of Brexit will be with us for a long, long time. I'm not one of those fervent Rejoiners, I am trying to be ...

Re: Freaky in the FT

Ed. I got totally pissed off with the EU and those who ran it. The UK was always the lesser dog, with its ministers dumped in minority roles. What, other than, for example, Catherine Ashton, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy? I've just checked the list of ...
