I have two copies of that, and one of them may actually be playable. When I get home from Lowestoft (don't ask), I'll see whether I can digitise it. Give me a prod if you hear no more of this in, say, three weeks.
Or does anybody know where this recording is already available on-line?

Re: Is 26% Full-Fee Paying Pupils Too High?
... I spotted you among a line of other satirical youths proceeding into the Science block with your books balanced on your heads in the manner of native women. Would you perhaps have been going into Mr Goodall's class and would this perhaps have been a reference to Goodall's nickname of "Bwaa...

Re: Is 26% Full-Fee Paying Pupils Too High?
So true. I'm sure Rockfreak and John Brougham and J.R. would get on just fine over a pint, notwithstanding their obviously different viewpoints, but web conversation is a sure way to wind things up. Ah, don't you just love the brotherhood?Avon wrote:This interweb thing is tough, isn't it?

Re: Daily Timetable
I'm very impressed that Michael can remember things with such precision. I couldn't have written that timetable down, but, now that I see it, every detail fits my recollections. Except possibly the evenings, which perhaps varied from house to house. I don't remember any third segment of prep in Col A.

Re: End of term
I wonder when the radiators, rather ugly looking edifices I recall, were installed. I believe they were part of the original 1902 build, whose architecture concealed a plan in the grand Victorian engineering style. The whole school was heated and powered from a boiler house next to the gym and the ...

Rumour and legend were that the Sagger's distinctive speech was the result of a war wound. As with so many rumours and legends that were current among us, we had no notion of finding out whether there was any truth in it.

Re: Whole school photo - how often
I can confirm what's been said - in the years 1954-62, no whole-school photo was ever taken. What's more, I don't remember ever seeing a whole-school photo from any period. If such a thing had existed, you'd expect it to be framed and displayed somewhere in the school. Most of the "official&quo...

Old broadie buckles
When I was in Col A (1954-62), there were a good number of old silver broadie buckles in use. They were worn almost smooth with use on the front, but the back (being protected by the leather) retained the hallmark, so we knew - if we cared - that they dated from the mid-19th to the early 20th centur...

Re: Chapel Music
This has all got very confusing. There's a King James version of the Bible - very little used nowadays - but not of liturgy and prayers. So far as I remember, when I was at CH (1954-1962) the school used the Revised Version of the bible - a late 19th Century revision of the Authorised (King James) v...

No, John, David means me. And I do remember - it was Colin Blogg. He had at least two large exercise books with sheets of perforated paper from diverse institutions, all mounted in true philatelic style with stamp hinges.J.R. wrote:Not this John, or are you referring to John H ?

Can anybody recognise these?
From around 1960. I suspect this is somewhere near Arundel, and it might possibly be the summer term whole hoilday. It looks like a father with two sons. Can anybody from that era recognise them?

Does this bring back memories?

Anyone who was at Horsham in the fifties will recognise this - but please don't tell us what memories it brings back to you. I found it among some of my old photographic stuff, used to wrap quarter-plate glass negatives.
