Re: CH as an educational facility for West Sussex C.C.

The points about keeping in touch are well made. But as I've already said, I imagine for many families the real issue would be the practicality and cost of regular travel. With the Christmas, Summer and Easter vacations plus three half term holidays you are looking at a minimum of twelve return trip...

Re: Letter writing

I have a ten year old daughter and arguably, one key skill that is more important than most for her to acquire is touch typing. Onewestguncopse, you have made this comment previously on the Forum, and I asked a question which I don't think you answered; are pupils at CH actually taught this essenti...

Re: CH as an educational facility for West Sussex C.C.

Does the Foundation receive enhanced fees from the West Sussex local authority for educating their children? Living up in the far north, I am under the impression that Sussex children do rather well from the Foundation and that the school has deteriorated into a first class facility for the Sussex ...

Re: 3rd form GCSE options

Any idea why they decide their options a year earlier than state schools? In our area, state schools also now make GCSE choices at the end of year 8. I guess it's a result of the pressure to perform for those all-important league tables, but it does seem very early - especially for summer-born chil...

Re: 3rd form GCSE options

As far as i can make out they have 4 choices, 1 of which has to be a language and 1 a humanity. I had no idea they took any early. Hopefully a parent with older children will be along to give us some 'proper' information Hi Pinkhebe I can only speak from my own experience, and things change fast (!...

Re: Cost cutting

I haven't received my financial assessment form yet, but you're quite right; last year we were told that the actual costs previously allowed for council tax, water rates and buildings insurance would be replaced by a 'standard allowance' for all families. However, we weren't told how much this allow...

Re: NEW TREASURER

I hadn't heard about the new Treasurer, but someone told me a few weeks ago that there's a new Clerk, a chap named Greg Andrews. I've just Googled this, and found an online copy of Housey dated mid March, there's an announcement on the back page http://www.christs-hospital.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/...

Cost cutting

In this morning's post we received a glossy full colour copy of the latest CH News, and as I scanned through it over breakfast I quickly realised that I had already read almost every item online on the school's website. I looked at the envelope - it cost 53p to post. Multiply that by every child in ...

Re: The Blue 2012

My copy arrived yesterday, and I'm impressed as always by the quality of both content and production. Just one question for Onewestguncopse - what's happened to 'The Avenue'? It's always been a pleasure to read the pupils'-eye accounts of life in the boarding Houses, and for many parents (especially...

The Blue 2012

I see from another thread that OBs received their print copies of The Blue last week. Mine has not arrived yet - I wonder, has it been lost in the post, or are other parents also still waiting?

Re: I S I Report 2013

Well said Howard, and congratulations to all who have worked (and continue to work!) so hard to make CH an 'excellent' school. That said, I was a little surprised at the fulsome tone of one or two of the report's findings. For example: The school operates a comprehensive web-site with a specific are...

Re: 2013 Admissions Thread

First, my sympathy to all those who haven't been offered places. I hope your children will soon get over their natural disappointment: I'm sure they'll move forward to happy and successful school careers wherever they go. Annatinks wrote: Our letter says "Whilst ***** performed well in our asse...

2012 ISI inspection report

I see that the new Independent Schools Inspectorate report is now available as a link from the school's homepage (don’t try to find this from the ISI’s own website, as the link currently still takes you to the previous report from 2009!). Well worth reading the full pdf, it’s a glowing report of whi...

Re: Any Questions?

Well my DS achieved 10 A* and 4 A grade GCSEs; but he couldn't stay on into the sixth form because the Foundation kept increasing our assessed contribution year on year out of proportion to our income, to the point where we were effectively forced to withdraw him.
