Re: From the sublime to the ridiculous
It is the privelege of the Senior Grecian to present a loyal address to the newly crowned sovereign and there is another charity function in the City at which he / she is required to give an address (I'm away from home so I can't look it up) Nuts to that. No problem with a loyal address for QE2 but...

Re: School Prospectus
I watched the treasurer who only reffered to the words for the second or third verse of the Votum. I only got half way through the first verse but then it has been 46 years since I last sang it. I wonder how many recognised the Horsham-specific verse!! Gosh, that's quite impressive - it's over twen...

Re: Some Sad News - Michael Carrington
He was a great guy, one of the few inspirational staff that I met, and I think I knew about his wife at the time. I remember him looking sadly at his watch after he had banged the gavel to end lunch. I asked him why and he replied that the school had lunched in just eleven minutes. I still have to t...

Oh, but they were crap. Functional, inelegant, lumpen, shonky rubbish - the sort of thing that gets made in prison.

Re: Spy in the bag
It does go to show that The North Face do make quality kit, if he'd put himself in a Karrimor bag it would have split at the seams.

Re: Old Beds, Settles Etc
Have you not seen the price of scrap metal recently??!! I know there's a settle and a bed frame in the museum in the sicker but I'd imagine the majorty of the old stuff is now baked bean cans and car body parts. True, there was some serious ironwork in the beds, desks and settles, none of which wer...

Having been the OB editor for almost 10 years, and consequently on first the CHC committee and then the CHOBA Board, I have difficulty identifying the "a**e licking social climber" you seem to assume is on the Board. you will see than I have now edited that remark Quite right too. Everyon...

Re: Day Pupils
The usual lily-livered false equivalence. Germans were fighting to plunge the whole world into a thousand-year Nazi night. Their dead have no honour. Ours were fighting for freedom, justice, democracy and the rule of law. Thnere is a difference. Utter rot. 'Their dead have no honour'. Have you been...

Does that make the discussion any less interesting? The nature of web fora is their organic nature, quite often threads digress, converge, sink and reappear. Where is the need for moderation? I note that this is explicitly an unofficial forum, so surely 'reader beware'?

I thought Baker was a very popular headmaster by all accounts... When he left (and as far as I recall, his leaving was quite unexpected), the sigh of relief from some members of the staff was loud enough to be audible even on my side of the Channel. One said it was like waking from a bad dream. May...

Re: Aspects of Housey 1984-90
Closing credit names Terry Clark. Oh yes, that's the bloke. Nice guy. I remember a bizarre night at CH when some old bloke donated a movie to the school. Apparently it was some tradition from Hertford. Anyway the second and third forms also got a can of coke and a choccy bar too but us older ones j...
