Re: Did anyone know?

I knew nothing more than vague rumours (I was there '89-96). But apparently the wildest, least believable rumours are the ones I should have believed. However it's clear from the various quotations from the trials in the papers that senior staff knew, and suppressed the information from going to the...

They don't exactly have a very good track record of passing information on to the police, even when legally obliged to do so...

Re: THE DOWNSIDE/AMPLEFORTH REPORT

Recommendations made by Dr Ruth and Dr Elizabeth Mann were not followed, and there was disagreement as to how some offending monks, including Piers Grant‑Ferris and Gregory Carroll, should be dealt with, including in respect of reporting them to the statutory authorities. As a result, both the Mann...

He said he couldn't remember most of the offences but could remember not offending for 5 years?

Most people remember sexual contacts when they have lived and worked together.
Why? Drink. Or a defence strategy (?)

Re: Sentence of Peter Webb referred to Court of Appeal

Can we get back to the matter at hand instead of resurrecting an off-topic dispute from last year? AMP just made some interesting comments.

Re: CH Letter re support for abuse survivors

In-house hierarchies gave kids power over each other - and some abused it, to a greater or lesser extent. I don’t think this was unusual though across all schools - I was bullied and fought regularly with other kids at primary school too - so from what I saw CH wasn’t unusual at all? I was shocked ...

Re: CH Letter re support for abuse survivors

However, there are many additional teachers ('there were others') who departed suddenly. These teachers might have left for personal reasons, perhaps they just assaulted someone physically and not sexually (as has been described recently, and left discretely), or perhaps 'they had something of the ...

Re: Roger Martin - trial

Actually, I think a couple of the OBs on this forum were peers of those who spent their gap year at the school so may know more. I believe several people in my year went, but the only one I knew well enough to ask died at a very young age. About the only thing I've found online regarding CH and the...

Re: Roger Martin - trial

So Kenya is a second destination for European paedophiles after Thailand then, is it? It's now come up several times on this forum, and a quick search seems to confirm this with multiple headlines of serial paedos getting convicted. (e.g. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/africa/western-paedo...

Re: Here's a hypothetical

Thank you for your post, Peter. (Would it be possible for mods to delete the irrelevant political squabbling above? This is an important discussion) The fact that Husband gave you a ride is very significant. I believe this is evidence of long term collusion, basically a paedophile ring, between Dobb...

How did Dobbie get the job as chaplain? Did Porteous put in a good word for him due to their similar "interests"?

Re: Sheila and Peter Higgins - character references for Gary Dobbie

So.my word as a former pupil and a teacher for 27 years at CH following a headship is worth nothing to you? What is this concrete evidence you are seeking? See my previous post for examples of possible concrete evidence. The fact that Dobbie et al got away with so much for so many years, without be...
