Re: Private Emails

Joe (my husband) had a delicious email yesterday, purporting to come from the Revenue. You know the one "you are entitled to a refund of Income Tax. Please send us your bank details etc etc". The old spoilsport just deleted it, and wouldn't let me fill in the form with "get ST*****&q...

Can any recent OB comment on whether the dining hall is still infested?

After a trip to DC and seeing flocks of birds in Washington National Airport, I wondered, did CH ever eliminate the birds from the dining hall?

Re: school sergeant

Re: Should I change my browser?

I would say anything but IE: it still is vulnerable to many attacks and is not compliant with some key aspects of web protocol that create problems.

Re: "Highway" at CH

While the posted sequences are probably edited, while the arts and chapel received a lot of time, I was disappointed to see no mention of the sciences. In my time (50s) CH was regarded as one of the most innovative and effective schools for teaching science. I would be sorry to hear that this is no ...

Re: Is Global Warming another Millenium Bug?

Much of the problem in understanding complex situations is that the Press feel obligated to give both sides equal time, regardless of the merits. This leads to an erroneous appearance of confusion and disagreement among the scientific community. In fact there is almost unanimous agreement on the ba...

Re: Snow

My Pond has, at last, melted sufficiently to allow me to do a little "Maintenance". The ice was 2.5 inches thick (I measured it !) but I have had a sad casualty --- so far--- of a Golden Koi. :( I would like to weigh it --- but i believe that TBA would frown on the use of the kitchen scal...

Re: Snow

Oh, and ALL the roads are cleared & gritted therefore accessible & usable!! Good to see you got home safely and that the children were OK. Why is it that Britain is soooooooo incapable? In defense of the British system: I have live in places in N. America (NE, Saskatchewan) where snow is in...

Re: Snow

Ho hum! Living in New England we consider anything below the knee as a 'dusting'. For surefire travel our Subaru has never been stuck. Luckily we really do live by Mark Twain's (local boy) dictum 'in New England, if you don't like the weather, wait a minute'

Re: Operation Bluecoat/Market Garden.

When doing my Para Training at Upper Heyford in 1948 (!!!) -- I was invited, in the Mess, one night, to take a trip in a Horsa Glider. I had never been more terrified in my life ! We took off, towed by a powered Aircraft, and somewher South of Oxford the Tow was released. A silence fell, broken onl...

Re: What Doesn't Happen At CH These Days?

I still pine for the layout of toyces much to my husband's annoyance and the manner in which I keep our study. Oh and the old beds. Their legacy on my back made bed shopping an absolute nightmare - I'm honestly so much more comforatble on the floor than most beds. What is a toyce, please? Those hor...
