Re: Who would you Shop?

This covers the entire range of time that I have been able to look at (I decided to ignore pre WWII). The last case that I am aware of is dated Nov 2019 but a claim of a second issue Feb 2020 pre lockdown.

Can't say much more - sorry.

Re: Ben Breakwell convicted of abuse

I will share the outcome and details and like you I feel so sorry for the family. This takes me back to the Martin trial where it became clear that the family knew nothing - I sat with his wife and it was extremely difficult. I think that at times we forget the consequences on others of the actions ...

Re: Ben Breakwell convicted of abuse

Thanks for this. I was aware of his sister but had no information on his mother. I'll be at the sentencing and we will see what comes out. Many thanks again.

Re: Who would you Shop?

Rockfreak, ever seen 'The History Boys'? 'Pink' has actually come up in my research and is one of the reasons that I have been able to follow sexual abuse at CH from 1949 to 2019(20). Of course, there are distinctions between types of sexual abuse. I was 'fiddled' with but then suffered far more sub...

Re: Ben Breakwell convicted of abuse

The appeal was based on 'double counting' by Judge Henson. It was overruled. The claim was that Henson had counted three items separately but they should have had a sentence just for one as they were concurrent. It was a technical exercise and the judges were not happy! His solicitor had a bit of a ...

Re: Release of Roger Martin

This a really interesting point, thank you. An international arrest warrant can be issued but it is not always recognised. In fairness a case can be heard without the perpetrator being present but it is rare. As you say, it really relies on the defendant returning to the UK. The issue becomes furthe...

Re: Ben Breakwell convicted of abuse

I am not aware of any relationship between the matron concerned and Breakwell. Husbands first wife did work at the school. I believe she divorced him but not certain exactly when. His second wife was at his appeal, as was I, and it felt like she was there more for 'sympathy' than desire or support. ...

Re: Release of Roger Martin

Thank you Otter for this. Interesting as a teacher from CH who has been raised with the police but not charged as the victims do not want to come forward, adopted a similar tactic. After leaving CH he went to Thailand. We do have an extradition treaty but it is hard to obtain. He then went to Austra...

Re: Who would you Shop?

Very true Otter. Durrant is the perfect example and any investigation is on a persons DBS if it has gone to the police. The point of Mandate Now is that a second, third or 8th party is not accepted as a valid witness. Only a party who has specific concerns and evidence is required to contact the pol...

Re: Release of Roger Martin

Hi Katherine, I am not an expert in this aspect but it strikes me that the Law must be much tougher with regards to bodies (clubs, youth groups etc.) doing a DBS check. I guess this comes back to Mandate Now. In 2010, in the Conservative Manifesto, Cameron promised a statutory law requiring individu...

Re: Ben Breakwell convicted of abuse

Thank you for this. When I spoke to Chief Constable York of Sussex police, one of the things he said is that 'we need to join the dots in any case'. Facts can be made obscure or re-imagined. It is often circumstantial evidence that proves a case. Putting dots together is a valid and important part o...

Re: Ben Breakwell convicted of abuse

Out of interest, I was at CH from Sept 1969 to Jul 1976. When were you there? Did you have no knowledge of various issues with some (a small few) of the teachers and boys or girls? Were you there with Breakwell?

Re: Ben Breakwell convicted of abuse

Hard evidence is simply hard evidence and I have provided Sussex police with my HARD evidence. There is absolutely no issue as to whether individuals were influenced by events at the school at the time. Knowledge was widespread. When I started looking at the issues my question was 'did anyone know' ...

Re: Who would you Shop?

Please have a look at Mandate Now. It may answer some of the questions. Good points from a victim of sexual abuse at CH. Thanks

Re: Ben Breakwell convicted of abuse

And I was 11 when I was first abused - so what is your point? Breakwell may have developed desires later in life or he may have started to get these when young but not have moved on to people of his own age or older. He went for younger. The point is, that you seem to miss, is was he influenced when...
