Re: Husband & Dobbie - VERDICTS
All three members of the leadership team admitted failures when it came to Karim. Yet it was reported that he was given glowing references. Precisely. They swept it under the carpet, persuaded the victim not press charges and sent him off with glowing references to work with children again. I have ...

Re: A party favourite
I agree with you. It’s hard to imagine so many people would willingly put themselves through the ordeal of reporting to the police, lengthy interviews, the risk of not being believed or the CPS not prosecuting, then the trial itself, all motivated by money or revenge.

Re: Husband & Dobbie - VERDICTS
Either Fleming did something with the information or he didn’t. If he didn’t, a teacher failed the victim. If he did, a senior member of staff failed the victim.

Re: A party favourite
Playing devil’s advocate (and NOT specifically talking about this case), what possible sensible motive is there? Either it is true, the victim thinks it is true but is mistaken or the victim is lying, either for their own benefit or to cause harm to the accused. Even if the latter were true, would t...

Re: Husband & Dobbie - VERDICTS
If it’s the case that Fleming (and potentially others) did escalate the reports and then felt able to do nothing further for fear of the system or for their jobs, then I’m even more disgusted with the leadership team. I don’t accept that this was the culture everywhere in the 90s, although it may ha...

Re: Who Knew What?
I remember he had his favourites, kids he'd give nicknames to and be all jokey with. Seemed mostly indifferent to others. At the time it didn't register with me, but looking at my memories through the eyes of an adult it's a red flag. The sort of thing that nowadays people pick up on quickly and pa...

Re: Who Knew What?
I could never claim to be someone in the know, I was a full fee paying, rather naive girl from a small town who had a very cosseted upbringing and a huge trust in authority. With hindsight, I wasn’t completely unaware but was utterly naive about what I saw and heard. There were rumours about Dobbie,...

A quick scan of old copies of The Blue tells me it was summer term 1993, it is mentioned as a joke in the Barnes A house notes.

Re: Should the forum be behind a registration wall?
Not forgetting the Band Master who ran away with a pupil. I realise that it was consensual, but it is still disturbing and a serious failure in safeguarding that things were allowed to get that far, especially given how blatant the situation was.

Re: Husband & Dobbie - VERDICTS
I have a huge amount of respect for the bravery of the victims, coming forward and having to relive what happened to them after living with it for so many years. I hope the verdicts today have given them a sense of resolution, or even closure.

That poor, poor girl.
I notice the police reports refers to boys, men, girls and women. Is this down to the differing ages of the victims?

Re: Husband & Dobbie - VERDICTS
1988 makes a lot more sense, the mutual victim of both Dobbie and Husband doesn’t tie up with his offences starting in 1998 given Husband left the school in 1994.

Assuming all witnesses testified-does the witness count include those who might have submitted written testimony or video evidence or only those who appear in person?

Re: Husband & Dobbie - VERDICTS
Has it been reported anywhere which members of staff were witnesses at the trial? Fleming is mentioned but it’s not clear whether he was a witness.
