Re: Quick questions and (maybe) answers Hertford Memories thread

JUNIPER HALL. That's exactly where we went. I think it was the summer holidays. A really beautiful area. I didn't realise that there was a famous pub nearby ( doh !). The education centre was a bit run down but nevertheless pleasant. The shady walk along the footpath next to the river ,with trees ov...

Re: Looking back

Likem Kim I wanted to do medicine and was told (I think I said this about 4 years ago on here) that I wasn't 'caring' enough. so I became a midwife instead. (eventually). I would have loved to rub DR's nose in that one. Angela, DR's advice was so like -well- as my teenage son would say...RANDOM ! C...

Re: Quick questions and (maybe) answers Hertford Memories thread

All these pervy stories have reminded me off our Field Trip to Box Hill. I'm quite confused about how we ended up going there. Was it Biology or Geography ? I already stated on this forum that we didn't do a geography Field trip so now I'm confused. Anyhow , I was in the sixth form. Lesley Bonham, m...

Re: Looking back

Pixie...very sad about Joanna Hulme. Did you ( or somebody) write an obituary for her in the CHOGA magazine where you were mentioned ? Sorry about the mistake. 2005 was a difficult year for me and I probably just didn't take the article in properly. DR always said that she thought it was important t...

Re: Looking back

Happy New Year everyone. Hi Pixie, Lovely to see you here, especially as I wasn't sure if you were still in the land of the living ! ( must have muddled you with someone else ). My A level results were bad as well although I did manage to pass them all. I'm not sure that it was the teachers fault al...

Re: Nancy Cordery

Miss Cordery ( as we knew her ) took our singing lessons and organised school concerts. In retrospect she worked extremely hard , coming up with novel ideas in singing to prevent boredom setting in. I remember singing bits of The Marriage of Figaro with great gusto , as well as the Carmina Burana ( ...

Re: A look around, summer 2008

In reply Chaz... Offices ( the Houses ) , Residential Flats ( the school hall and kitchens, the "listed" front of the school, and new build apartments where the science and school blocks and other buildings were demolished ) and Tesco Supermarket ( the chapel and the school playing field )...

Re: A Girl's School from Outside

A very immaculate photo Lonely Wolf. Looking again at your pic by the gymnasium/swimming pool I can see the back gate , as it was, on the right of the photo. The gates seem to be open. If I am right about the cedar ( and I think I am )...then the demolishing of that whole area to build the new road,...

Re: Arrival by train

I'm pretty certain the ( Victorian) Brewery was very close to the school, it used to stink the place out several times a week.
I left in 1972.

Re: Quick questions and (maybe) answers Hertford Memories thread

Lonely_Wolf asked "Why was "nines" called nines ?" I think "nines" must still be there as it was part of the row of ancient listed buildings at the front of the school. It was once used as a house or "ward" as they were called in the distant past. There were s...

Re: A Girl's School from Outside

Hi Everybody...I'm a bit late to see those brilliant photos... Firstly ...is it Julie or Sophie that married a "yank" and moved to California ( nice ! ). Secondly, both Sophie and Julie had very frizzy hair ( I thought it was lovely ). Sophie has straightened her hair in your beautiful pho...

Re: Hertford photos from the sixties

J.R. ...I think you are talking about Judith Staines ( another Reverend's daughter) with the BUNCHES and glasses and quite tall.Rather happy and good hearted as I remember, as all vicar's daughters should be :) Lonely Wolf...I'm sure you realise that those buldings ( School block and Science block )...

Re: Housemistresses

Just a little post script regarding 3s housemistress " Lil ". I am still in touch with a couple of 3s OGs ( Penny Manning and Jacquie Tomlinson ) and between us Lil is oft'imes remembered. Sixes and Threes used to go on Sunday crocodile walks together over the meads watched over ( every ot...
