and sejintenej is quite correct, The title of this thread is "Did you see.....?" and he had put 'Last Night of the Proms' in the subject line. Thanks Mary - I'm glad someone reads from the start ;-) I have been 3 times, and there is nothing like being there, one of the things you should d...

NORWICH was a favourite in the war I read. There was a lot of SWALK when I was at CH; Kit Aitken got a bit suspicious and one boy's ** mail was intercepted; he was not pleased (** he joined here a little while back) There were others which I have forgotten. But I still don't know what d.l. is. &quo...

Last night of the Proms

yes - available even here! Sorry but not a patch on the versions a few decades ago. a) AFAIR it is still treason and an arrestable offence to sing a certain song which was aired from Glasgow. b) the Ulster contribution (Danny Boy) may be beautiful but it is the saddest song I know of - discuss c) th...

AArrgghh How far are we from the case in point at the start of this thread (albeit welcoming Hertford OBs such as Jude back on board, in the meantime)? I am a novice in such matters but it does seem that we have strayed off the point..........................Is this normal? Yes, and be thankful tha...

Seem to be lots of interesting cars mentioned, ............. that caught my attention were: Renault 4 (used to be quite a few in Brighton), ............... A friend has one of those over here. At various times he has been pulled over by different gendarmes - who want to buy it! Masses of them on th...

120 degrees F = 49 degrees C and we were cutting brush from 9 am to 1pm. Anyone want to lose a few pounds? Anyone want to get fit? Anyone want a holiday in the sun? It was 80 degrees F (27C) in the pool - just a degree under what it is in my study now at 10pm local time. could do with a holiday Dav...

........... a man has been arrested for handing out papers with verses of the Bible printed on them; likely to cause offence apparently. I consider that the arrest causes offence but they never charge police with actions likely to cause a breach of the peace like speeding / using the horn unnecessar...

What is an "extreme Christian?" I think an extreme Christian, Muslim, Jew or whoever would have to be someone who not only takes a literal view of their scriptures (which would, of course define them as a fundamentalist) but also takes an absolutist view of their particular religion's rig...

It's a hell of a lot better than being dead! Well I'm not sure. Being trained in the CH chapel choir and somewhat of a musical bent, I quite fancy the thought of harping 9-5. Having had Daddy Dor's baseball bat to all parts of my anatomy (and still suffering) for not knowing what being tone deaf is...

I still remember my first day at school... Likewise for my primary school. Only 6 teachers plus the headmaster and I can still remember all their names. Sounds pretty intimidating; one teacher (Miss Welch), one class for 5 to 11 year olds and abpout 12 pupils. Two memories - having to write a lette...

If you allow a convicted criminal to commit suicide you remove much of the threat of punishment. Let the criminal suffer (and I also advocate reduced cell temperature, fewer (if any) visits, no priveledges, 25 hours a day in cells ....) to make them really fear going back. We could follow the Turkis...
