Re: Roger Martin - trial

Also note in LhB/A MAb, Pe A/B & ThA with attached masters houses the stairs are towards the centre of the house and all pupils had to pass by an assistant housemasters study to get to bottom of the stairs and then both bottom and top dorm had a bedroom between the stairs and the dorm door - wh...

Re: Roger Martin - trial

As I leave the scene, which I gladly do now, a final reminder as to why I involved myself in this highly unpleasant 'exchange of views' in the first place: 1. To quash vicious scurrilous speculation as to my reasons for leaving CH, which were contemptible and deeply offensive; 2. To put on record m...

Re: doesnt want us to visit

As an aside i manage a girls U18 rugby team and we had a delayed start to an Area finals game last season as the ref had to recover (and write up a report on) be verbally accosted and accused of being a "disgrace to reffing" by the parents of a U15 girls team playing their final before us ...

Re: Roger Martin - trial

Presumably the boy needed treatment for his perforated ear drum and so reported to the sicker. Yes, but he chose to name the teacher. Probably because the incident described didn't involved the power dynamic of some of the incidents which peel were convicted of in quite the same way. I suspect to g...

Re: Why does Eton make headlines....?

The point seems to be that Eton is offering VI form scholarships per se. It already has a core of scholarship boys and that has always been the case. Notoriously, the magic Boris was one of them, in distinction to Cameron who was a 'paid' entrant. The assumption that only rich kids can get there is...

Re: Did anyone know?

This seemed like the least wrong thread to put this in - there is an interesting (shocking) story on the BBC today talking about a Welsh boat owning paedophile Art teacher who seemed to manage to perform serial acts of abuse for years inside a state school (at roughly the same time period) and how h...

Re: Here's a hypothetical

I remember O'Meera telling me there was a special licence category for schools and barracks - rules were only beers and wins NO spirits or fortified wines, NO money to pass over bar, No profit to be made just enough surplus to cover wear & tear but 17 year olds allowed as long as no guests from ...

Re: Here's a hypothetical

I think the only official alcohol I even received at CH was at Cast parties in the Theatre or in the Club which i got into a few days before the end of my deps (you were allowed in on the first day on the month of your 17th Birthday) The club was an excellent idea, being able to sit around chatting ...

One Old Blue who has not lost his activism is Mark Thomas, I just wish he still had his TV show as a vehicle for the big "in your face" stings he used to pull off (The arms fair one was the best closely followed by his float in the Lord Mayor's show

Re: Dates of birth of convicted abusers

Although a matter of detail, as to preparing specifically for WW1, I refute that, as well. I cannot recall any training in the CCF for trench warfare or other purely WW1 tactics. The .303 Lee-Enfield was still in use in the 1950s and the tactics taught in the CCF appertained to WW2 and later campai...

Re: Anyone else who hated being at CH ?

I think it is a little less Black and White - if you want to get into the mechanics of it then you need to compare the elasticity of demand and the elasticity of supply - during the war supply could not be increased and was less than the free market demand by so much that free market supply and dema...

I guess the inclusion or not in phase 2 will depend upon the funding the inquiry has, how many institutions it can therefore effectively concentrate on and how they "rank" (sorry horrible word to use as it makes it appear i believe anything is acceptable, I don't just cant think of a bette...

I think when using the facebook term "friends" you have to remember that means "socially linked to" not like real world usage of friends as meaning "a person with whom one has a bond of mutual affection"

Re: Resignation of Baker and emergency appointment of Hansford

"random punishments" which meant a dep caught with some home brew could get a harsher punishment than an LE caught legless on Vodka for the 2nd or 3rd time (not sure if that actually happened but the concept struck me as very unfair at the time) Just not true - this must be a urban (rural...
