Re: Sponsorship for a charity volunteer 4 months in Mexico

You've left it a bit late, but you should speak to the Benevolent Society of Blues (BSB) IMMEDIATELY . The persons to contact are either Rowena Harris or Judy Wright on 01403-247418. I am sure that they will advise you to get your request in rapidly. At the worst the BSB will say no, but I think the...

Possibly an unfortunate choice of words, given the circumstancers!?

Re: Deputy Grecian-2007+

Why 1256?
Their base at Alamut (in present-day Iran) was taken and destroyed by the advancing Mongols, 15 December 1256. There is a theory that Osama bin Laden sees himself and his men as lineal successors - hence the deja vu bit!

englishangel asked: "Asssassins anyone?" The name comes from an Islamic military order, whose popular Arabic name was hashishiyyin , (hence, assassins ) supposedly because they carried out their attacks while under the influence of drugs. The original group numbered no more than a couple o...

ANYONE LIVE IN/NEAR WANSTEAD?

I am conducting some research into Old Blues who died in World War One and need to verify a particular grave that lies in " Wanstead (St Mary) churchyard." As I live in Devon this is a bit of a long journey, so is there anyone who would be prepared to go and look for me, please? I can supp...

Re: Prep B House Photos

A curious feature of this picture, at least to my eyes, is that there are no masters. Every other house pic I have seen has the two housemasters and the matron sitting in the centre. Perhaps, it was a Prep thing?

YOU TUBE

Has anyone at the school thought of putting a couple of Housie events on You Tube? For example, I am sure that a proper choral rendering of "Praise the Lord for our Foundation..." would go down well, as would, say, the Band playing "Sussex By the Sea." Nothing excessive but a cou...

Re: 20 years on

Vonny, Don't worry about attending the 20-years on reunion. What you will discover is that you haven't aged one iota in either looks, mind or spirit, whereas all the others will have aged incredibly - some may even look as though they need Zimmer frames - while their political stance is about ten mi...

Re: Were 19th century Grecians known as the Upper 4th?

Concerning forms in the early 1950s. I followed a somehwat erratic pattern (the story of my life, really) by going from the Fifth Form to being a "Probationary Deputy Grecian." I spent a year in this grade and the following September returned as a "Probationary Grecian" (I.e., wi...
