Re: Expelled

Only very rarely are pupils expelled these days. It is not seen as being in their best long term interest, and normally where a pupil does not fit a particular school, that school will seek to help the parents find one where they will. In these cases the pupil is withdrawn under mutual agreement. Wh...

Re: Leavers and fees

And how can you decide at Easter whether to give a term's notice when you will not be informed of the next year's fees until July? Readers of my previous posts will know that I am very much in favour of full means testing in order to ensure that CH sticks to its core principles, and that I have lit...

Re: Does anybody know when the results will be posted after the

Lets face it, there is nothing at all natural or nice about wrenching a child from its parents, placing it in the care of a bunch of strangers you hardly know, and spending a great deal of money, depriving the rest of the family and yourself for the privelidge. There is only one good reason to do it...

Re: New Official CH Parents Forum

An Englishmans Home , and all that..... I'm afraid I am about to light a blue touch paper here...... There are actually 266 ways people can enter your home, nearly all of them without a warrant. Look at this JR and everyone else stand well back.... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1549399/The...

Re:

I didn't think that the problem was associated with the surrounding countryside and villages, so much as with Horsham itself. We always used to take the short cut into town via the Needles Estate. This is still home to one or two of Horsham's 'problem' families and we were always advised never to h...

Re: Are we alone?

There's more than one way of skinning a cat. http://www.fismagazine.co.uk/fundraising/gift_aid/bursaries.asp I'm sure it wouldn't take too much imagination for CH to do something similar and tailor to it's own requirements if indeed it is not already. Thanks Andy, good site. the paper version of th...

Re: Are we alone?

I should balance my last post with a note to say that I have also seen the other end of the spectrum, with self effacing and modest people anonymously providing support for others in tragic circumstances, but refusing any recognition for themselves.

Re: Are we alone?

Well JR, I with you on the last post. Once more into the breech. This is not a question of CH moving towards the Winchester, Eton, Radley models, or them moving towards CH - the two models are cosmic distances apart, and Eton does not have a hope of contributing to bursary support on the CH scale fo...

Re: Are we alone?

It would seem to me that it is time for the Counting House to invoke the "Home visit inspection" clause that is included in most means testing systems to ensure that confidence in the system is not undermined by possible fraud by friends of ailurophile.

Re: Are we alone?

Hi JR,

Real money in the old days. If I remember rightly, spening money in the Prep Block Tuck Shop - too young to use the other one - was limited to 1s 2d per week in the mid '60s which bought you 14 penny chews or 28 black jacks.

Re: What do we think of the key changes for the assess process?

Sorry about this folks but a quick look at any of the search sites will reveal simple options for bonds producing 4.5%, before tax. Money being worked, and belive me people with £500k in cash make sure the money is being worked, will produce more than this, even in this climate. In addition, in the...

Re: What do we think of the key changes for the assess process?

I must say I also find allowing £500k of equity in a house astonishing, if that is really the case, particularly if pension pots and contributions are not "allowed". I have to say that when I am assessing means testing, all equity, houses, pension pots etc are considered and allocated a n...
