Languages, English and the EU: A call for opinions...

I and a partner have been asked to propose the motion that English ought become the common language for the European Union for the next stage of one of the many interschool debating competitions (the regional round of the Mace, if that means anything) and doing the preparation has got me thinking as...

Mark, (picking up on an old thread) I notice a lot of people in school today wear their 'Broadie Buckles' at the back. WHY? WHY? - Is it a 'Human Rights' thing? Well, your question is a fair one. It is the near absolute rule in present-day CH, rather than exception (or even act of rebellion) for bu...

I didn't realise those ads were painted on, I thought they were digitally added on TV. Nope, laboriously hand-painted on! In the case of Saturday, it was still being done at around 10:30 am that morning while we were doing our sound check - I guess the rain hadn't helped! Mrs C's question was exact...

well, I don't think so, because until a few days beforehand there was a small possibility that there wouldn't be any tickets spare for us, especially since England had won against Scotland - the engagement didn't come with a definite promise to provide us with tickets. No, one reason for limiting ou...

So they couldn't have a few more dainty little schoolgirls (and boys of course) there but they could have those soldiers in their clodhopping boots. I don't know... although we were only half strength, we probably made over 80% of the volume... Also, the soldiers did take their role very seriously ...

Is it really possible to get into the Band when only 12? It seems very young to me. Well, not to go to Twickenham (or play on HMS Illustrious)! Being limited to only 50, it ended up as almost all Deps and Grecians, some GE, and the odd UF - the argument being that the older members would have had m...

The whole article is very enlightening (and terrifying to one considering the military as an occupation, even if only temporarily!). I can't think of many countries with a big cross on the flag with which the US has any sort of negative relations... it also begs the question of how serious the situa...

Well exactly... Seriously - to those reading this - if you read 'Lousey' and find it too 'distasteful', then feel free to complain and have the topic moved/removed... I'm interested to see whether 10 years is sufficient water under the bridge for such publications to be revisited, or whether offense...

Without being too subversive...

Are there any members on the forum who remember the whole 'Lousey' saga? For those to whom this means absolutely nothing, most of the 'Issues' are online, at: http://imaginator.com/time-out/lousey/index.html (I notice the link is no longer forbidden on the school network, as in previously years! :D ...

Yes, sorry about the quality - its the only way I can get them through the school's upload/download file size restrictor! I could email you the original files if you would like to mess about with them!
