Re: Freaky in the FT

Delighted to see that a Polish politician has at last admitted that Germany is trying to turn the EU into the Fourth Reich. It's the Polish government that is trying to make its country more akin to a Reich , and the EU that is trying to prevent it. The Polish government want a Hong Kong-style medi...

Did this happen today, or has it been further delayed?

Re: Telegraph article: Pupils at prestigious public school will receive lessons in 'white privilege'

I didn't realise there was originally a different meaning of the term "non-foundationer". I always understood it to mean a pupil who had a parent (or sometimes two) as a member of staff, and so slept at their own home on-site and did not board.

Re: Telegraph article: Pupils at prestigious public school will receive lessons in 'white privilege'

For me, it begs the questions which other forms of perceived 'privilege' should the school cover? Just to note (as a white person from a low-income background), being white is definitely a privilege in this country; there is nothing alleged or perceived about it. Even a white person from a poor fam...

Re: Telegraph article: Pupils at prestigious public school will receive lessons in 'white privilege'

CH itself was diversity training for me, coming from a totally white rural area.

And typical lazy journalism of course to describe it without qualification as a £36,000-a-year school.

Re: Ben Breakwell convicted of abuse

I agree with the view that the families are totally innocent and also victims in a different way. I do remember that one of Husband's relatives went on the Old Blues Facebook group after Husband's conviction to proclaim Husband's innocence and to attempt to undermine the victims' credibility. I woul...

Re: Burr released

But this is standard practice? A release at the midway point based on good behaviour and other such measurables? One assumes that despite a formal parole hearing there are appropriate controls to govern his movement and conduct. For the majority of immediate custodial sentences, release comes autom...

Re: Release of Roger Martin

My concern is will he be able to carry on with young people in say the Scouts (his affiliation at and post CH)? Will they check? . Just noticed this which is old The answer is a very definite YES, they will check. In addition a person is generally introduced by a neighbour etc. so his or her neighb...

Re: Ben Breakwell convicted of abuse

Is he related to the former Peele matron with the same surname? why, you dragging her into this one now...lol...? Not at all and apologies if it appears so. I knew and liked her. Hoping that this is not the case. I have also wondered if Husband is related to the lovely matron of the same name who w...

In my position as a university professor in the USA, I’m a mandated reporter. That means that any incident of emotional, physical or sexual abuse involving a student, postdoctoral researcher or staff member that I hear about, whether rumor or statement of fact, or reported by the victim or some con...

Thanks a lot, Rob. Illuminating to read, and thanks greatly for your personal intervention re: Burr. Fully agree that there are gaps in the tracking of RSOs, and that there are possibilities for them to disappear. Harder than ever, due to technology and surveillance, but of course possible. It seems...

Re: Ben Breakwell convicted of abuse

Well all I can say is thank goodness our justice system doesn't convict based on the maxim "no-one can be sure that he didn't do it, so he must have done it" that is being suggested here. I enjoy my fair share of true crime, both podcasts and Netflix docos, and I can see here and elsewhere...

Re: Release of Roger Martin

Just to advise that Roger Martin is due for release on 4th July 2021 and as this falls on a weekend he will be released on Friday 2nd July 2021. He will be under restrictions and has been placed on the Sexual Offenders Register. I should say that many consider the SOR a rather useless tool as there...

It would be extremely interesting if these rights were successfully exercised for this. I used to work for the Probation Service, and I know of countless people with very old and very minor convictions from their youth, which in no way reflect the people they are today and are of zero interest to th...
