Re: Quick questions and (maybe) answers Hertford Memories thread
All the posts on this Thread fill me with dismay -- The more I hear about Hertford the more it appears, if only to me, as an awful place for intimidation, psychological punishments and very strange attitudes of the Staff. Can it be that those who experienced the "Great Transfer" were reli...

Re: "Highway" at CH
This was filmed on my Grecians year. I clearly remember the filming for the band parade (I'm on the second part briefly at 1.28!). Lots and lots of very familiar faces. You may not be aware that in the showband sequence the solo trumpeter was Rick Slater, who not long afterwards died on the railway ...

Re: SHOES !!!!!!
Rubbing the inside of a banana skin on leather shoes (and then rubbing it off!) is supposed to bring them up lovely. I remember frantic shoe polishing very early in the morning before we hopped off to the Lord Mayor's Show or St Matthews Day. DGE would not been pleased with mucky shoes on display i...

Re: Damian Scanlan (LaA81-88)
Bl**dy hell! I'm a bit shocked. Just seen this on the CHA newsletter. How awfully sad. I was in the CCF and Damian was heavily involved with that. I remember him marching around looking quite scary and shouting at us all. A lot. His sister Selena was in my year and in my Science classes. Thinking of...

Re: Rob Gauntlett RIP
As I've said on James's page, the arbitrary cruelness of life is so sad. I knew neither of them but followed their progress up Everest, and was proud of the CH connection. Both families have a wonderful legacy left to them in the fullness of and achievement in the boys' short lives.

Isn't Adrian Bawtree's son called Theo? Or am I getting him muddled up with someone else? Anyway it's a great name for a little boy! Never mind Adrian Bawtree, Kojak was called Theo - and I'll bet CJ junior looks just like him ! (Oops, didn't mean that quite how it may have sounded... ) He's...

Re: Long time ...
A quick update. Theo arrived 9 days early on Wednesday morning (6 August) at 2.39am weighing in at 8lbs 13oz after 1 1/2 hours of labour at home (result!). Big sister no.2 slept through the whole shouting match and woke up delighted to a little brother. Big sister no.1 is in Belgium and also slept t...

All our local garages are either low on fuel or have now run out and there is now talk of another 4 day strike over this weekend. £1.99 at Exwick does seem to be taking advantage of the situation. Rather embarrassingly the Morrison's in Tavistock filled their unleaded tanks with diesel last week an...

And the year 1 child who asked her teacher how to spell 'sex'. After the initial shock, the teacher asked why she wanted to spell 'sex'. "Well, I'm writing about insects and I've got as far as 'in' " came the answer. On a visit with a group of 8 year old primary children to Hampton Court, ...
