I was informed of this by Campaign Against the Arms Trade on campus. They're a pretty big organisation with lots of pretty big names on board and tend to know what they're talking about. Blondie, I know they're allowed to, otherwise they wouldn't (couldn't get away with it). Anyone can legally inves...

Is it right for universities...

Is it right for universities to invest in the arms industry?

I have just found out that my uni (Swansea), as well as some others, invest millions of pounds of our tuition fees in cluster bombs, land mines and other assorted nasties.

I'm sure you can all guess my view, what's yours?

I have given up lots of times - and stayed that way for a while - but I become a raging ant-smoker - like DBTS - and it also means I can't go to pubs etc... It is my only vice.... admittedly, i have smoked many things, but never ants. partly as i am a vegetarian, but mostly as i was unaware of thei...

no bashing from me.

i recognise that any drug addiction is an illness, and should be treated as such. my sympathies are with you Jude. although it may well have been your own free choice that started you smoking, the 'cool-factor' is very definitely the industry's fault.

it does sound like the girls could get away with an awful lot more borderline bisexuality than the blokes could. it's nice to hear (not because "the idea of lezzers turns me on", before you imply it), just nice to know that even decades ago girls were much less nazi about sexuality than bl...

I am guessing, as the thread evolves, we will mainly see reports from Oxon, the Cotswolds, London, Surrey and Brighton. Loadsa famous peeps live in the above places. I guess because they're all nice places to live if you can afford it. Switzerland and the French Riviera fall nicely into the same cat...

thankyou all, i feel guilty for using Dad as an example, as some people may not wish to contradict me on the above points because of it. feel free though, it wasn't my intention. J.R.'s anecdote doesn't surprise me in the slightest. and in a way shows a down-side to weed, hysterical laughing can som...

OK, I know this ancient news on this thread but I've only just seen it. Cannabis. I'm not saying it's hunky dory but I've seen a lot of BS being thrown around by utterly clueless people (no change there then!) As far as I know, and according to many articles, it is biologically impossible to overdos...

His honesty and integrity is an oximoronic statement by the way - he has neither.
good to see Jude's sense of irony is pin-sharp as always! :D

I passed Boris Johnson as I was going out of University Parks in Oxford a few weeks ago. Not that surprising I suppose, as he is MP for Henley.

I find this whole topic very unsettling. Because someone else is making a judgement call about what is good and what isn't. For example I smoke and drink a bit - and if I get ill, I might go to hospital and expect treatment. Then some clever clogs says - Ah - you chose to smoke and you knew it was ...

The uniform ain't far off medieval really, nor is the transvestite monk comment completely undeserved. I've heard many people say they'd like to blow up the school. Is it surprising that he didn't credit CH for his beliefs and anti-establishment actions? The chapel charities hardly cut it. Oxfam, Gr...
